Getting ready to throw down some 50pt games and just wanted to post my list to see if there is any sort of refining I could do to it.
Battlegroup:
Adeptis Rahn Shyeel 6WJ
Chimera 6
Manticore 8
Troops:
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) 5
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) 5
Houseguard Halberdiers (Leader and 9 Grunts) 7
Houseguard Halberdiers Officer & Standard 2
Soulless Escort 1
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9 Grunts) 8
Mage Hunter Commander 2
Soulless Escort 1
Solos:
Arcanist 1
House Shyeel Magister 2
House Shyeel Magister 2
Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios 3
Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios 3
My thought is to keep Rahn back about 8" or so at all the times and arc node any spells needed through the Chimera. Also, keep the Manticore close by just in case Rahn needs some extra protection, or run it forward to deliever a payload of Manticore Ranged attcks or use it to melee up targets of opportunity.
Use the Shield-walled Halberdiers (with Polarity Shield) as my meat shield, park the Battle Mage Units and Magisters behind them so that they can utilize the Halberdiers ranked attacks to fire force bolts through. On Rahn's feat turn activate the Mages first to try and get a few knockdowns and then use the Halberdiers to charge and wreak face. I'll have the Mage Hunter Unit, Eiryss, and Narn on the flanks to provide a lot of pressure on the enemy warcaster.
I am toying with the idea of replacing one of the Magisters and the Halberdier Unit + UA + Soulless with a full Sentinal Unit + UA + Soulless. The Mage Hunter Unit would lose its soulless escort to keep points at 50. If I do this I'd have to move the mages out to the side to take advantage of their ranged goodness and also to manuver them as needed for a charge.
Thoughts?

could this not fit in a theme army you could get the arc for free + other advantages. though you couldn't have sentinals in that case. sentinals are good with polarity and when you TK the enemy jacks and put their back arc in the sentinals face.
halberdiers make a good core i have not yet got them but i am looking foward to it i don't know about polarity on them as set defence gives them the +2 def against charges etc. you will be trying to get the charge of with them using brutal charge and so. if getting the charge off and smashing face is the order of the day sentinals are your baby, they are almost as hard as halberiders in shieldwall anyway

I found two things when I was learning to use Rahn before Templecon.
One: He needs a meatshield. I used Sentinels as a raw bashy meatshield, but Halberdiers work as well.
Two: The Phoenix is freakin' awesome with Rahn. Arcanist gives it a focus. It walks into range, combusts, and buys a sword attack as needed. If there's still anything engaging it after the conflagration of death, Rahn Force Blast's to clear it off, then can Force Hammer whatever was hiding behind the unit you just toasted.
I had no problem running without the MHSF with Rahn, while the Phoenix and an assortment of solos (Snipers, Assassins and Magisters) served me very well. Since you can keep heavy-armour targets on their butts through slams, smites and knockdown, I didn't find the Manticore as much of a necessity with him.
Basically, for my preference, I'd drop the Manticore and the MHSF, upgrading to a Phoenix as your heavy, and grabbing more solos and maybe a unit of Stormfall to give you anti-stealth via AoE's.

Yes it could, I tend to prefer the combined arms lists over the Tier Lists just because of the tactical flexibility that comes with a non-restrictive list, though some of the bonus are rather nice with the Tiers.

Set Defense is great against the charge, but not getting charged is even better, I'd rather use Brutal Charge with the Halberdiers. My thought on Polarity Shielding the Halberdiers is to force my opponent run up (hence ending his/her units activation) to engage the Halberdiers and it allows me the chance to set up the charge by having Rahn pop his feat and have my two teams of Battle Mages push/pull the enemy unit/solo/'jack into a better position with Forcebolt. (i.e. allowing me to break up any Shield Walls they might be in...oh yeah and lots of knockdowns if the dice gods love me).
He needs a meatshield.
I agree 100% Rahn has to have some sort of meatshield. Hence the Halberdiers or the Sentinels.

I tried a Phoenix once and it did work rather well, I was trying to trim points in this list (and still get a lot in) but I might have to go with the Phoenix due to its many abilities.

That is good to know about the MHSF. I will definitely keep that in mind. I do like the flexibility of the Solos and depending on how the MHSF works out, they may or not be switched out with a bunch of Solos and the Stormfall Archers. That was one of my original ideas but I settled on the MHSF + UA so that I can ignore LOS and always put pressure on the enemy warcasters.
Thanks for the feedback, I am going to go toss together an alternate list so that I can in some practice with both and see which one I like more.
