View Full Version : Cheap jacks are awesome, but expensive ones just don't work for me.

Almost everytime when I stumble upon some thread, or podcast, or verbal conversation about what jacks a new Khador player should get, all I hear are "Spriggan, Behemoth and Beast", as if everything else is terrible. However, I've found that cheap jacks are amazing for me since that means I can either run multiples even at 35 without weighing down my army too much, or just take one and spend more points on other stuff, i.e., infantry.
Expensive ones on the other hand do "work" in a literal term, but I feel like I'm spending a lot for them.

Does anyone else feel this way? Or is it just my playstyle? Or perhaps I'm wrong and not using my jacks enough. To be honest, spd 4 is horrible and outside of certain casters, spd buffs aren't exactly an omnipresent thing. Especially for like pButcher, which I use a lot. Thoughts? My gratitude in advance.

Most of the reasons I subscribe to the 'one expensive jack' idea and the arguments for and against it are:

It really is a great read with opinions on both sides of the fence. Although for something like pButcher quantity really is quality, at least in regards to getting maximum mileage out of Full Throttle ;)

As much as I love running Behemoth in a 35 point list, at 13 points he's a spendy sucker, and at times I consider I can do a little better. For three points more I can run a classic Juggernaut/Destroyer combination. I lose a bombard, but that's no biggie as I've added more boxes which my opponents generally dislike. And despite the greatness of the Big Three, I love my classic Juggernaut/Destroyer combo. It's made of love and puppies. Explosive puppies.

Everyone has their own playstyle, and I've drifted towards warcasters that fit the playstyle I enjoy, and combinations I enjoy. I play a lot of friendly games with the mindset of: "I'm going to try this combo just to see what happens!" Sometimes it works, sometimes it blows up in my face.

I usually pair a good, melee jack with one that has a gun or some anti-infantry tech. Most recently, I've been using Drago/Devastator with Vlad1.

If you really like cheap warjacks that get the job done, then maybe you should check out becoming a Mercenary...

Seriously!!

But I agree whole-heartedly with your sentiments. I prefer to have more of... well... EVERYTHING!! And cheap but effective warjacks let me do this all day long. Just be glad the Berserker was not retired and sold to us Mercenaries - we would make the rest of you cry if we had access to them!!

I have been running Juggernaut/Kodiak combo w/ pButcher, and I really love it. As already mentioned, for pButhcer quantity is quality.

Honestly? I'm in the same boat.

While I've definitely run lists where I've gotten great results out of Beast-09/Behemoth, in general those 'jacks are so expensive that I tend to either underplay them (to try and keep them from getting rocked early,) or my opponent makes it a point to harass/disable them as much as possible (which is harder to counter, since I have less stuff on the board due to their higher cost.)

So sometimes it's definitely better for me to take more, cheaper warjacks, versus one expensive warjack. Varies a lot by list and 'caster, but I think that's the intended design. :)
