Gun Mages' Arcane Inferno- How does it work?

So, Arcane Inferno gives a Combined Ranged Attack an AoE 3. My question is this: how does this work with those models hit, but not directly hit, by this attack? My instinct is that they would suffer 2d6 + (# of models participating in CRA) + 1/2POW of weapon (which would be 5). I just want to make sure, it's just weird to have a CRA that's also an AoE.

That's exactly how it works. The AoE does 2d6+POW on a Direct Hit, and 2d6+1/2POW as blast damage. A unit making a CRA attack adds
+1 to attack and damage rolls for each participating member. Thus, the Arcane Inferno does 2d6+POW+CRA damage on Direct Hits, and 2d6+1/2POW+CRA on blast damage.
