If I have a focus on a warjack which strikes a Lancer, do I lose the focus immedietly or am I allowed to boost the damage? I only ask, because I'm used to seeing damage done (in other game systems) before the strike is considered to be resolved and I was told it did not happen that way.

You don't lose focus for striking a Lancer. You just take Cortex damage after the attack is fully resolved.
(Let me know if the following is against the rules, and I'll be happy to erase it)
"Shock Field - If a warjack in this modelʼs front arc hits it with a melee attack, immediately after the attack is resolved the attacker suffers 1 damage point to its first available Cortex system box."

If your cortex is destroyed however, all the focus goes away. You can't spend focus either.

Yes, my cortex was going to blow one way or another. But does it blow before or after I roll for damage?
I'm also sorry I didn't describe the scenario better. Otherwise what I was asking would've been clearer.

Your Cortex takes the damage after your attack resolves, so you can still boost. Assuming you only have one Cortex box left you would hit, resolve the damage (possibly boosting), and then take one damage to your Cortex, crippling the system and losing any unspent focus.

See that's what I suspected. Thanks for your help. My poor Centurion could have totalled the Lancer afterall... oh well...

Says when the attack is resolved right on the pdf. You win.
