Hey,

As far as I can tell, the Wolf Rider's cavalry attack is a weapon, and gets reach from Lightning Tendrils.

Am I missing something?

the mount is not a weapon, its a mount attack, light cavalry can use their mount as an initial attack, but it is still not a weapon, and therefore you cannot make free strikes with it, and it won't get lightning tendrils.

The rulebook calls it a Mount weapon. As written it does get Reach from Lightning Tendrils.

Just have it on the Wolf Riders javelin attack or Bloodtracker Javelin attack. Seems just as good as Cygnar Major Katherine Laddermore with Elector Charger to Storm Lancers within 5" so all do Ride-By Electro Bolt firing at at range 8 then get an additional ElectroLeap attack to nearest 4" model for POW 10 damage roll.

Was there ever a ruling on this? Anyone work anything out? This is my reading:

Lightning Tendrils 3 6 ? ? Yes No
Target friendly model/unit gains Immunity: Electricity ICON. Affected model's melee weapons gain Reach ICON and Electro Leap. (When a model is hit by a weapon with Electro Leap, you can have lightning arc to the nearest model within 4˝ of the model hit, ignoring the attacking model. The model the lightning arcs to suffers an unboostable POW 10 electrical damage roll ICON.)

I bolded the melee weapons part, so we know the Thrown Javelin will not get electro leap on it, however the Javelin will. Then on page 47 paragraph 1 under MOUNT:

A cavalry model?s Mount not only provides transportation but also is a weapon in its own right. Mounts are indicated by a horseshoe icon in their stat bars. A Mount weapon has a 0.5 ˝ melee range. Attacks made with a Mount are melee attacks and are resolved normally except that the damage roll is only 2d6 plus the POW of the Mount. Do not add the cavalry model?s STR to Mount damage rolls. Mount attack and damage rolls cannot be boosted.

So, if its a weapon and it makes melee attack is it a melee weapon? I'm inclined to believe either, but until it is ruled I'm leaning on yes it is a melee weapon. As is I play mostly friendly games, I'd at the least give my opponent a roll off or let him know if was coming.

It's not a melee weapon. It's a mount weapon, that's why it has a different icon. It happens to make melee attacks but it doesn't fulfill tendrils requirement. Back when tendrils was just "weapon" it worked. Now it doesn't.
