There is no longer any such convention about number of spells on a caster. They have how many the devs think they need to play like they are intended to play. No more, no less. The old formulas (Fury -2 and spells=to Focus stat) are dead and gone.

Some Focus 7 casters have 6, some have 7, some have 5.....Fury is the same. Someone (Jason Soles?) said flat-out that they would not give casters spells just to fill an arbitrary quota and that doing that had been basically responsible for a lot of useless "clutter" spells that never got used. Paraphrasing a bit.
