Here is my Cygnar collection painted up in the Fort Falk Scheme. I'll post more pics as I finish the figures.

This is a repost from the old Forums.

C&C are welcome.

It looks well done. What paints are you using? They look a little, well, thick to be the PP line.

I am using a combination of GW Foundations and Citadel Paints.

These are the first models I have painted that are thinned down. Might need to adjust my water to paint mix and aim for thinner layers.

I am going to start giving the P3 line a try when I start working painting up my Ret models.

Look good! I think you need to go one more colour for the highlighting with the blue-grey armor, maybe a bit of edging colour like a light blue-white, but otherwise fantastic!

I've always like the Fort Falk colours. Would it be presumptous of me to say that I think some darklining anr/or highlighting would take it to the next level

A friend of mine recommended a 3rd layer as well. I just need to get up the nerve to do it. One small step at a time. I am actually going to attempt blending when I mark their bases to show the front and rear arcs. I figure if I mess up or don't get the blending right then it is simple enough to paint over the goof up. :D

Not at all. These are the first models that I have actually attempted to do something different with. I generally just fielded models with a single flat coat as its base and then some basic drybrushing for detail. Table-top worthy but nothing to write home about. With my Cygnar I started the layering and I hope to progress further when I start in on my Retribution army and Circle army. Nemo actually has the most work done on him. The metal is 3 different layers, the 'tesla coils' have 3 layers of paint with 2 washes. I am working on my Journeyman now, I'll see about adding a highlight layer to the edges of the armor. I'll get pictures posted as soon as he is finished.

Mostly they look good, but the armour's a bit flat without some shading and/or highlighting. For decent results, try a wash of Citadel Badab Black and Devlan Mud (about 1:2 parts), maybe slightly thinned if you don't want them to look too grubby. Worked a treat on my Fort Falk Trenchers.

Having seen these in person, I will say that either the photo-flash or the lighting are washing them out a little, and taking some of the contrast out of the grey areas.

They look better in real life. Particularly Nemo & the Bokur.

Hi, my paint work is no where near as smart or tidy as yours, but if you want some idea of what the highlighting would be like on them here is my fairly similar (un-finished) paint job.

Yeah I need to get flash-rig or build a light box.
The camera rocks the house, my photo-fu...not so much.

Hey, see if you can persuade Jon to let you photograph his Ashlynn conversion for the modeling/painting forums. Have you seen that thing since he got it all painted? It looks SWEET. I can e-mail him about it, but with him working crazy holiday hours the next week or so and me hip-deep in last-minute moving prep, it ain't gonna happen. But maybe after the holiday weekend is over, you guys could do it.

He doesn't post on here terribly much, but I know he has an account. If you send me a decent image file, I can host it on my site for him and send him the URL to link to. I just think that model is cool, and people ought to see it.

I believe there are a couple in Superiority.

No, I'm not going to walk across the room and check. My chair is comfy.

I added an additonal line of highlighting to certain parts of Brisbane's armor to see how it turned out.

I didn't glue on the smoke stacks because I really like the more compact look to Brisbane's boiler

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r94/Gramut/SiegeBack.jpg

When I saw the Rocket Cannon I immediatly thought of the 40k Orks and just had to paint it up with some sort of nose art; in this case, a shark's mouth.

Also...I really hate painting eyeballs. These ones actually almost seem to be looking at the same spot.

That Siege looks good, man. I like the idea of leaving the stack off the boiler, and I kind of wish I'd done that with mine. :)

I like the glowing blue hammerhead too. Looks good and magical.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in if you don't mind.

As far as hilighting goes, I know it's been said to death but I'll say it again. Take the hilights as far as you feel comfortable with, and then go one step further. Also, while painting, move the mini out to the distance it will be when it's on the table and look at it from there. These are both very basic ideas but they help a ton.

I'll admit, I don't always follow the first one. I still have trouble pushing my hilights as far as they should go.

My last tip would be when trying something new, don't give up on it halfway (I'm terrible at this). Push through until it is finished, then put the fig down for a few hours and come back and look at it with fresh eyes. I'm always amazed when I walk away from a fig disgusted, only to come back to work on it and realise that not only does it look ok, it actually looks really good.

Edit: Haha I forgot to say, your stuff looks really good! Keep it up!

I dont know if its "official" but i am painting mine as "The Mire Watch" - 3rd Mixed Border Guard Company. Simplified of course due to my lack of painting skills. Mostly what I would call tabletop quality. So if they get chipped, who cares?
But to stay on topic I really like the OP scheme too.

wow! I just have to say that your faces are really really good. Granted, I play Cryx, so it's not like faces are a big deal there, but daaamn, I like what you've done. The gray is interesting too. Good work for sure. I probably would have tried to make it more blue/gray, but you do a very good job.

The only critique that I have is that your Siege model looks like he's missing something where those smokestacks should go. Maybe some electrical coils would look good there...or just rounding off the hole/nubbin where the smokestacks would go. Really though...the only criticism that I have for your models, and I think it's just a preference. So just toss it about, if you don't like it, ignore me. Otherwise, kudos for a very good looking force so far.

Okay...I hate painting eyeballs so for the moment these guys are going to be called 'finished.' They have been sealed and are ready for the table. I am sure I'll get around to painting in their eyes eventually :)
