View Full Version : The Christmas Painting Exchange

We've had the forums up for several days now, but I haven't seen hide nor hair in terms of the minis exchange that was set up on the old boards

I'm curious as to how it's working out for everyone.

I have Primalxx's Teraph underway (those bloody little front legs are a sod to get sitting flat), where are the other participants at?

I thought I saw Tonyzahn post a new thread about it but can't find it now. Anyways, I have my model and hope to prime it tomorrow and then get started. The weather has been terribly windy and cold, hence I couldn't prime.

Cran777 has my model and is working on it. I think it would be cool to get a few WIP shots of everyone's model. I should have one up by the middle of next week.

You need to stop painting and bring your arse to Aardvarks to get stomped by my angry elves... LOL

I started the idea and hope everything's going well for everyone...Kinda lost touch with wierdoboy after the forums switch, but his 2 mini-beasts are looking cool. Not what I was expecting them to look like tho

As bluecardinal said, I've been working on his model over the last week or so. Haven't touched it since Thanksgiving, what with all the shopping deals out there, but I'm definitely on track to make the Christmas/New Years deadline.

edit: Because apparently nobody appreciates taking the time for WIP photography. *sniffle*

Oh good, I was scared you were talking to me for a second... and I don't know anyone named Aardvark, let alone where they live... but I'll take any suggestions you feel like PMing me about Retribution ;)

Also, spoilers!
Awesome to see a WiP! I'll try to make some picworthy progress on the Teraph once I'm done writing up tomorrow morning's battle report for WMHC2 for Lost Hemisphere.

I had posted something, but I think it got lost in all the Hordes MKII excitement.
Understandable, I'm having trouble giving airtime to non-MkII posts on the blog right now, with my contributors and I wanting to get our MkII impressions up while they're still relevant.

Looking forward to seeing the results of everyone's labours!

I'm here. Got a primed horse that's looking to get some paint here in the next week.

Thanks guys for sounding off....let's me know we're all still going, don't forget these are all supposed to be postmarked for return unless arranged between everybody.:) In other news, regarding Wierdoboy's mini-beasts. . . . does anybody know what green and yellow have in common with each other, but not the shredders I'm painting... details coming....sometime:D

I have Tonyzahn's mittons (shyeel battle magister), primed...and painting. Just trying to decide colors and make my mediocre skill compared to his look like something he wont be ashamed to put down on the table with the rest of his fantastic army...

On a side note spoiler....this elf...will be a drow...evil grin

That teraph is looking really nice.

I've been debating whether I should take some WIP pics or not. It's always fun to share, but I think I'd like to surprise Rave when they're done.

NecroticDischarge,

Tubby arrived today, sadly he is now in recovery from surgery. 2 legs came loose, so I pinned the suckers back on. I have a spare MoW Drakhun shoulder which I am going to drill through and green stuff or superglue to paint up like a victim which will also give a good stabilization point for the legs instead of those tiny points. i have a 3 day weekend coming up so with some effort I should be nearly done on Sun and have pics to you soon.

well the flesh is done after 4 hours and 3 episodes of the A-team. metal is well on the way then just the corroded bronze (that's the tough part) btw. no metalics being used for this gotta love Cry Havok magazine for inspiration sometimes.

Looking to be done Friday night on Tubby and with luck in the mail by Sat. This is alot of fun, we should fire up round 2 after the new year.

Just got to do the slime on the cnnon and the base. Not sure about making the legs rusted, I need to consult my tutorials on that. Should be in the mail on Sat back to you Necrotic. I'll keep you updated. I love days off when I can sit for 8-12 hours and do nothing but paint.

I might be the only one left that has to finish painting a model, how sad. Good news though, my model is about 75% complete.

Is everyone going to post a pic of their mini when they get theirs?

No, I've still got a good bit of finishing up to do, so you're not the only one. I'll take photos before I mail them out, but I won't post them until Rave gets a chance to see first.

A quick update, I got Orin back from Cran777 and he looks fantastic. A great paint job and it's one more painted mini I have. Now I have to finish up the Hierophant and send him back. Thanks again for this great idea and I look forward to more.

I'm just waiting for sealant and the mini-beasts are ready to be mailed. Once I mail them off, I'll start a "completed pics page" for all the postings of finished goodness. I know some of us have already shipped the pieces, but if at least one out of the remaining pairs has a camera we can post pics of everything. Thanks for staying on top off this to everyone.

I took pics just before I mailed Necrotic "Tubby" the bloat thrall, have not downloaded them from my camera yet. When the completed thread is started, I'd like to email the pics to someone who can post them for me since me and photobucket are having problems atm.I cannot seem to be able to upload anything to my account.

Honestly, they're still here. I'm sending them tomorrow. I don't see any problems though, it's close enough to xmas that I don't foresee any problems. Plus UPS works better for me than USPS.

I'm almost done with Madrak as well, I tried out a new technique on the tabbard that didn't work out at all, so I need to make some changes there.

I'm hoping to be done by Friday so I can mail then, if not it will be mailed Monday morning.

I bathed my war spears. Then again, I bath every model I buy. The little time it takes for possible headaches you might have down the line is worth it imho.

The RoS myrm seemed excessively greasy out of the package.

Mittons almost done Tony. Got the coven today. YAAAAY CHICKS!

Sidenote the beach ball came off the base...to be expected. Looks like a spike or 2 went missing. But thats ok. Love em though

tonyzahn
12-22-2009, 03:35 AM
There was a small spike I didn't put on, but I was worried about the base. I packed the crap out of it, but I guess it wasn't enough.

PS: I didn't seal them, partly because the weather didn't cooperate, and partly in case you wanted to tweak the paint job yourself.
