View Full Version : Which MKII Models Do You Use The Most?

Sadly I've only played two MKII Khador games thus far. Both were losses but both were very close and a lot of fun. The first was a 50 point game with Zerkova against Cryx (Skarre) and the second was a 35 point game versus Mercs (Magnus). Both were against the same player. We're very evenly matched.

I like what I'm seeing with MKII in general. I think the game is better than it was before. I really like the 35 pt. level and my friends seem to feel the same way.

One of the things I like the most is that it doesn't feel like MKI where I was taking the same models over and over again and just filling in the rest of my points. Some of my personal favorites were Demo Corps, Widowmakers, Mortars, and my #1 finisher the Drakhun. Yuri and the Manhunters got a lot of use from me as well. The Behemoth and Beast 09 were my top choices for jacks unless I was taking Vlad in which case I'd use Drago.

In MKII things are very different. Our fast, Flying Steel, Weapon Master solos (Drakhun and Yuri) got nerfed. They both hit really hard but no more Flying Steel. The Demo Corps. are still a solid unit but now they eat up a lot of points. The playing field for jacks is a lot more even now. Beast 09, for instance, is still awesome. Is he worth four more points than a basic Juggernaut though? Maybe so but maybe not. It's not as clear as it was before. The four point difference between Beast 09 and a Juggernaut buys you quite a lot in MKII.

So, in short what I'm saying is that I think there are fewer auto includes for Khador in MKII than there were in MKI and that's a good thing. Like I said I've only played two games thus far but I can see myself taking the Mechaniks, Wardog, and Ogrun Bokur in a lot of my lists.

Mechaniks. Cheap to field. All have repair 7 now not just the unit leader. In MKI they had a tough time repairing if the leader died. Assistants can assist repair with eachother. New unit formation rules seem to make it easier for me to repair multiple jacks. In MKI it was the norm for me to only use one jack in a list. In MKII I find myself using two. Solos can't kill casters and trash jacks like they did before. We need to rely on our jacks more. These guys help ensure that our jacks keep operating at peak performance.

Wardog. For one point you improve the survivability of your caster in melee. That makes him worth taking in itself. He also allows your caster to avoid free strikes and gets a nifty counter charge.

Ogrun Bokur. For our casters that have lower defence and/or are on medium or large bases the Bokur seems like a great option thanks to shield guard. Fantastic model to counter things like Eiryss's Disruptor Bolt or nasty ranged criticals like the Impaler's crit slam or the Mule's crit throw. He's not a melee monster like he was before but he's still not shabby.

I can see myself choosing my caster and jacks, then the Mechaniks, Wardog, and Bokur and then filling in the rest of the points from there. How about you guys. What's models keep finding their way into your lists in MKII?

Great Bears keep popping up in my lists over and over again. Five points for three tough models with weapon master and two attacks? Heck yeah!

I totally agree on the Mechaniks, I think we have the best mechs in the game now, hands down. Especially since they got Iron Sentinal (or whatever it's called, don't have the cards handy at the moment) which makes them much more survivable in the thick of battle.

As for warcasters.... I've always been one to hop around and take a different caster each time, but for Mk II I've found myself drawn to Karchev, eButcher, and pIrusk particularly. Karchev especially became the beatstick he was always meant to be. The war dog is particularly good with Karchev too!

I just picked up a Bokur today, and my boyfriend snagged it for our game as soon as it came out of the blister so I haven't had the chance to use him yet. I really like Gorman di Wulfe now though! His grenades are awesome.

It's always the Widowmakers for me. They fit in anywhere.

My most played models in MKII are...

My mekaniks - I love them, they are a point hit every time, but i love those guys

The War Dog - he gives good abilities and is easy to fit into any army at one point which I often have lingering after spending everything else.

Beast 09 - Walking death with any caster

Kodiak - maybe our best jack for the points

Full Winterguard with unit attachment and Kovnik joe - This might as well be a single 10 point unit entry in the rulebook for me. If i bring one, i bring the rest.

Great Bears - they rock, but i also recently bought and painted them, so they're my new shiny.

Koldun Lord - A nice addition to most armies

I find I am gravitating towards Fenris. I've only played a few Mk 2 games though and it's not an optimized list since I am trying out OW and the Kayazy. But I feel that Fenris will alwayus be there as well as the Dog.

My stuff at MkII will not change too much from MkII, just the jack will be harder to kill:P
so in mKII: Irusk, Spriggan, Koldun Lord, Destroyer, Great bears, Yuri & co., AKs, Drakhun (?), Greylords, Widowmakers... and after he comes out... Strakhov :)

greylords, widowmakers, and mortars. rest, I just roll the dice on it to randomly decide.

same as before in mk1

juggernaut is my go to melee jack now if I'm running infantry heavy.

"Impale, impale sounds good."

Fully kitted out winterguard and kovnik joe, and the mortars.

For Jacks I've gotten a TON of use out of kodiaks. Behemoth is also showing up alot.

The Spriggan! I love the big guy. The Juggernaut also finds itself in most of my lists since it's so cheap!

Widowmakers always and the Bokur, for Eiryss protection.

Kayazy Assassins, using them as flanking troops in bigger games and with Sorscha. Because stealth troops don't block LOS for feat :p

Also mat 9/def 14-16 troopers are dumb especially with spells like battle lust, iron flesh and fury. Also they look like russel crowe in gladiator. Except the underboss, I'm divided if he looks like Ving Rhames or a Shaft as played by sam jackson.

Surprisingly little love for the humble Iron Fang Pikemen! I heart these guys, bread and butter melee infantry that always gets the job done.

Well IFP are like the air, always there, never mentioned but everyone notices when they're gone.

I've found Beast 09 in most of my armies, war dog, and mechaniks too. For a melee style (hah, as if there is a ranged one) Great Bears are a great choice.

Most of the time, it's the MKI standard things for me: Winterguard, Greylords, and Widowmakers. Great Bears are awesome, but they only make it into Iron Fang theme lists.

I'm always around with Great Bears and Widowmakers, either as Alpha strikers in a broader sense, or as late game freshies when everything else suffered from attrition. :)

Koldun Lord, all the way baby. That magnificent old critter brings so much utility to my lists, I can't leave him out.

I also find myself still taking Yuri every game, but for different reasons now. Before, he was a single target pain machine. Now, with my warjack numbers going up, I like having him around as a relatively fast, tricky to get rid of infantry threat. Few things can stand up to his Thresher, and he can still chip in a solid *whack* on something if need be.

All my lists start out 1 point down, because I will not leave home without my dog.

I am fielding Beast 09, Great Bears, and Fenris a TON. I just tried Ironfangs out, finally, and I can't figure out why the heck I wasn't fielding them all the time. They're amazing.

Grey Lords very useful, do not leave home without.
Koldon Lord is amazingly cheap and effective Jack Marshal - using him with a cheap Jack has been great.

Widow Makers in every list.

After that it's up in the air, nothing is really certain.

I'm thinking that I want a unit of Nyss Hunters for my Khador army. They are SPD7, DEF15, pathfinders with combined ranged attack, range 12 bows, that ignore forests, concealment and cover. They even have weaponmaster on their melee weapons. They're 10 points which isn't cheap but you get a lot for those 10 points. I don't like using too many Mercs in my Khador armies just because I don't like to lose too much of the flavor but these guys look awesome. I doubt that the WG Riflemen will cost 10 points but I don't look for them to be nearly as good.

IFP are great, it's just that it was used so much in mk1 that people are switching to other units.

"Yes, just three."

I know I fit that category. I never played without them before, so I've just been breaking out the rest of the collection.
