View Full Version : Can burrowers aim the turn they pop up

Can burrowers aim the turn they pop up. They cannot move, which would imply they can't. But PPS_Jack said they could. Yet he, to my knowledge, is not official like DC, Soles, and various infernals are.
So I, though I hate to request it, need somebody of some status to answer this question before we can properly field test the models.

Read as written, Burrowers cannot advance during the turn they surface but it says nothing about forfeiting their movement altogether. Seems to me like they could voluntarily forfeit movement for the aiming bonus.

No advancing = Forfeit movement
It would be great if we could get an infernal on this though.

Err, care to source that with a page number?

Pg.63
A model
cannot forfeit its movement if it cannot move or does not
have a movement available.
If you can't advance, you don't have movement available. Really though, I see where the other side is coming on this, and I saw in another topic that the Infernals are checking in on it.

Ah, I missed that in the Hordes FT rules. Thanks for the catch.

By the letter of the law, they can't, but apparently that might not have been the intent. PPS_Jack implied that they could, Lunatic Calm said he's checking on it, and Mootaz says it's under debate internally.
Stay tuned!

If it turns out that they can (pretty much the +2 they got before due to ambush) then the burrow rule should be amended to specifically state that they gain an aiming bonus - to stop any future confusion.
But honestly, I think they need this rule now that all bonuses to RAT are out the window for Trolls. Otherwise they will only get spots in specific lists and not really be a contender for regular use.
You pretty much get one turn with these guys before they die horribly (or gloriously - your choice).

I'll be darned, looks like the answer is yes they can get the aiming bonus after all (http://privateerpressforums.com/showpost.php?p=21747&postcount=15).

They cannot move around, but they still have a "movement" portion of the activation to use to change their facing or they can forfeit it to aim. The Burrow wording will be tweaked to make this clearer.
Requoted for ease of reading :)

It's sooooo good to hear. I do hope they at least place it in the book as a tactical tip just so I don't have to explain it as much.

Can we assume this ruling applies to all
May not advance rules?
I.e. can I aim after I teleport with my shifting stone?

DC stated in the other thread that this ruling should not be taken as setting any precedent.
The end result is that burrowers will be able to aim the turn they pop up. This has no bearing at this time as to the distinction between 'cannot move' and 'cannot advance' and whether or not 'cannot advance' makes a model unable to forfeit its movement.

So we have no ruling on that at all?

Not yet, but it is something we're looking at.

Probably best to start a new thread on it.
