Is there a good material thats not masonite or hardwood that dosent require a electrical saw to cut? If you have any suggestion please let me know and if you have pics of it and or in use even better :)

1/16th"-1/8th" thick SINTRA. It's a plastic that cuts & shapes well with an X-ACTO knife. You can usually find it at a plastic fabrication supply shop, and at least at my supplier, he sells the small offcuts for a pittance.

mdf board and tin snips.
MDF is way too thick to cut with tin snips unless you really want to give yourself arthritus before your done crafting your terrain

Try pink insulation foam in thin sheets. It raises your terrain up a bit, but it is easy to cut, cheap, and can be used to build walls and such.

Foamcore is your best bet. The stuff that's a 1/4 inch of foam between two card sheets.

What is wrong with an electric jig saw? You can get them at yard sales, flea markets, cheap cheap. MDF is awesome for basing. It's just so worth cutting it right

My number one piece of terrain advice learned from years of making terrain:

DON'T SKIMP ON BASING MATERIAL.

Most people treat basing like an afterthought and a chore best finished as quickly and cheaply as possible with as little effort as they can get by with.

Bad idea.

Nothing turns a good terrain piece into a crap one faster then bad basing.
Crap material warps and breaks and is an eyesore and leads to broken terrain.

Take the time to base with quality basing material and invest in the proper tools to do so.

Your terrain will thank you...

are you talking for the under-part of a terrain piece (also refered to as the base)? I found that Birch Plywood (1/8" thick) works great for small terrain, small like 5x5 or 4x6 houses, have to build a hill yet, but she holds pretty steady. the house is made of foamcore, so it is light too.

I found it in the Balsa Craft section at local Michaels Art store. a sheet 12x24 was only $4
