View Full Version : Ravvyn ~ 35pts. My way of making a list. Please comment.

So, I'm about to start playing the Retribution and my conclusion is that since almost everything is useful in a way or another it's quite hard to make a list. You will always end up not using some of the good stuff and have to make some quite hard priorities. So, what are my priorities? Since I'm both a tournament player and a hobbyist effectivness and good looks are my two main interest. Since the Retribution have a large number of models that are both good looking and effective I will try and focus on the models that appeal to me the most:

Casters: Kaelyssa and Ravyn
For me, these two are the most beautiful looking casters for the retribution. Both seems to have a playstyle that appeals to me but my secret wishes are that the Retribution will get a Houseguard Caster in the future. I'm keeping my thumbs crossed.

Myrmidons: Hydra
I'm in the camp that the Retribution Myrmidons is quite ugly (even though the name is awesome). They do somehow "sink in" and I'm starting to like them more and more. They are quite similiar but the Hydra is the one I'm starting to like.

Units: Houseguard Units, Stormfall Archers, Mage Hunters
I'm in love with the Houseguard units, both the Riflemen and the Halberdiers. With limited points (35) it's quite hard to make room for both if I want to have all the other goodies in my list. I like the concept of the Stormfall Archers and hope they get good models. The Mage Hunters fit both my two casters quite well, both fluffwise and rulewise and the models are appealing.

Solos: Fane Knight Issyen, Destor Thane, Mage Hunter Assassin
Fane Knight Issyen will be a beauty if the sculptor do the art any justice and he seems to pack some of the close combat hittyness my list surely needs. The Destor Thane, I like rulewise with Ravyn, and the model might be nice. The Mage Hunter Assassin is quite cool and I have a small idea for a conversion I would like to do.

With that out of my head, this brings me to my list. This list is based upon my conclusions above and are mostly based on models I would like to paint. Your job is to tell me if it is playable and what strenghts and weaknesses it possess. I'm sure there are some small changes that would make the list better and something I'm aware of is that it is quite shooty. Is that booring? Would a more mixed list be better? Do I need a hard hitting jack?

If one is looking for a Houseguard Caster, one needs look no further then the Sithlord.

I'd drop the Stormfall Archers for a max unit of MHSF and a Mage Hunter Assassin. Fitting in another assassin would be a cool idea too, those things are insane.

I assume you are refering to Rahn and even if he would support the Houseguad pretty good he's way to much a battle mage caster for my liking. When I want a Houseguard Caster I mean by appearance and fluff.

Do I really need a full unit of Mage Hunters? They don't have CRA and with the UA they are a respectable number of 7, still many enough to make sure all is in range but few enough to hide them behind things (wich they will shoot straight through).

I would very much like to add a Mage Hunter Assassin, or two. Maybe switching the Destor Thane for a pair?

Do you have to include the models you listed? or can we suggest others? If so id suggest a manticore instead of hydra. You have a lot of shooting already so your jack would need to be more proficient in melee. You also got one more point to play with.

No, they are not auto-includes, just more a guideline for what I like modelwise. It's a way to try and make a list consisting of the models I like the most. For example, the Invictors seems really good, but I'm more fond of the Houseguard Units than the Dawnguards, therefore I'm trying to avoid the Dawnguards and make a list of other stuff.

I can see why the Manticore would be a good choice, the list is in need for a tool against other Heavy Jacks and it do have a nifty ranged weapon as well. Loosing up 1 extra point isn't bad either.

ok then. The next thing id like to suggest is to take out issyen and with the one point buy 3 super 2 point solos. Or if you prefer then take out destor thane for eiryss + one 2 point super solo.
