Hey there,
I am currently working on 10-12 buildings, fountains, enclosed parks and other things found in urban areas. My goal is to make an urban table, but I don't want to have to muck with roads, so I was thinking to cover the whole table in cobble stones. That way, I can place my structures/terrain anywhere and the roads will just pop up between them....
Do any of you know of a way I can EASILY cover a 4'x4' area with something that looks like paving?
I have ruled our Hirst blocks, as it would take me longer to cast the bricks 6 at a time than to paint my whole army....I have ruled out that rubber Dept 59 mat, which I do use for small pieces of terrain and bases....I have now run out of ideas. Help!
Please!

Textured wallpaper is also an option. Though if you order it online make sure it is actually textured and not just printed to look textured.
Also here is a linky that will give you some other ideas:

barring that go to a good train store. Those guys have been doing cobblestone for decades and can point you in a number of directions both self-made and commercial...

Grimm,
I could very well be blind (Pretty lucky when I paint and build terrrain I guess!) but I didn't see anything that would help me texture an entire board. A little more specific answer for an aging gamer would be most appreciated!

Also might be worth checking out Laminate textured tiles. I might do that on the Bottom of my fold up table. have it reversable and all

Oh GD ur killing me. The other thread you started entitled Building Buildings. The one about the foamboard templates from Pictor's Studios. I added a link for another possible source. You haven't read it yet. I was thread high jacking for a quick moment to say "hey GD, go check out that post i left for ya that you haven't seen yet cause i think it may be something good for ya." :-)

OK, so this makes feel less stupid, doesn't absolve me by any means, but your link was in the Foam Core Buildings thread.....(When I looked at work, I only read over the Building Buildings thread)....So I will take some time and go over the links you left me in the other thread, after I've had my coffee!
Thanks for the heads up again....I do appreciate the help, even when it seems I can't find my *** with both hands and a map!:confused:

One of the things you can buy from railroad suppliers is a sheets of cobblestone made from dense black foam that looks like this:

It is not cheap, but it look great, holds paint well and is durable.
It can be cut to shape, etc. It is what I used on my "scrap yard" table:

Take note with this stuff: it is vinyl and will react badly to spray primers/paints in that it will sometimes stay "wet" and give off vapor sometimes indefinitely with certain sprays. One of the reasons I stopped using it.

No Quarter Magazine Issue #23 (Legends Diorama). There is a how-to on making stone/tiled roads using cereal box thick cardboard.
