Here's my Retribution thus far for a painting endurance competition I'm doing with a couple friends over at livetocrush.net. Let me know what you think.

I had posted this chimera/sniper in the old forums, but was waiting to finish my next model to post up anew here, so here's a manticore as well (and he's magnetized to be a hydra too, when I get those arms painted up).

Check out this link (http://blog.livetocrush.net/) to follow along with us, or this link (http://gallery.livetocrush.net/index.php?cid=70) to see more of my Retribution pictures.

Comments and criticisms are very welcome! I also realize that I need to spend some more time on my camera skills and reread that macrophotography thread. The all white background for the chim/sniper is particularly offensive to the eyes, so I apologize for that.

Nice job. The paint on the second jack looks much smoother. I think you could go a step higher on the highlights. Overall, it looks like your moving in the right direction.

What kind of wash did you use on the shading where the arm-blade meets the arm?

I'm not gonna lie, as soon as I saw your myrmidon the first thing that popped into my head is "I think I've seen this thing battle it out with Voltron 25 years ago". It brings back memories. :)

Haha, well thank you. I will choose to take any and all comments relating my posts to Voltron as compliments.

I used P3 armor wash. I also have their brown ink which is what I used for the rest of the bronzey crev***** (let's see what the filter does with that), but it is a very reddish brown, and I didn't think it was working for that particular shadow. I think I could have made that a thinner line.

I forgot to mention that I didn't have time to dullcote the big guy at the time of posting, so his basing is not finished either.

I really like the color scheme. However, I am not a fan of the straight metals. I would have painted the metallic areas smoothly with a tan color, then lightly drybrushed the bronzeish goldish. Ink wash, then further highlights.

I love your blog by the way. The Cygnar and Cryx armies on there are beautiful.

Right in my favorites, underneath Miniatures.

Cygnar and Cryx = exeter. I'm sure he thanks you kindly for the comments. Glad you're checking the site out.

Now that you've said that, I'll admit I'm not too happy with the metals either, and I may try out your advice for the next model and see how it works. Do you have any pictures of models you've done like that as an example? I'd love to see it.

Adding some pictures of my Dahlia and Skarath. They may not be the best in battle but they are certainly cool models...
