Wanted to use the Nephilim Warder, original list was planned for 35 pts and against Cryx...
Saeryn.
- 2 Seraphim.
- 2 Angelii.
- Shredder.
- Nephilim Warder.
Striders+UA.
2 Forsakens.
Shepherd.
Ravyn
-Hydra
-Phoenix
Invictors+UA (max)
MHSF+UA (max)
Stormfall Archers
Magister
Nayl
Narn
MHA
Super league Arcanist.
51 pts, but he had access to Fuel Depot.
Went first, had forest in middle, hill on my side, huge LoS blocking obstacle on the other side, didn't play much part.
Setup, from my right to my left, my side has on the right an Angelius, Forsaken, center is Saeryn, Shredder, Forsaken, left and close to the hill are the Angelius, Seraph, Shepherd. Striders AD in the center behind the forest.
He deploys, from my right to left, MHA, MHSF (right to center), Stormfall Archers way right back. Center has Ravyn, Hydra, Phoenix, Magister and Arcanist, center-left has Invictors+UA, left has Narn and Nayl in AD.
Move forward/onto hill, cast Tenacity around (which the MHSF ignores when cast by Saeryn), enter forest, keep one Angelius farther back, etc. Striders can't do zilch, due to the MHSF having stealth... so park inside the forest. Might have been better to park behind, to ensure both more than 3" which usually there wasn't so they got shot by other models as well, and to force the MHSF to get closer...
His turn, MHSF+Jesus canon one-shot my Shredder, Narn moves away from hill with Angelius and Seraph on it, Nayl runs to engage the Seraph. Half my Striders die (he's close enough to shoot them with the MHSF, places MHSF to block lanes, Storm-fall archers also help kill my Striders, forest not big enough. Striders fail command check but succeed in rally on my turn). MHSF don't bother shooting at Saeryn due to DEF 18 versus ranged. I luckily remember Force Barrier means no blast when the Stormfall Archers shoot.
My turn, I have a Seraph with 1 Fury which passes Threshold, take Fury away with Shepherd, activate Saeryn and feat, one Angelius charges the MHSF, kills one, overtakes and uses animus... no LoS to Ravyn which is what I hoped for, after Seraph movement, so I just decide to move the Seraph forward and strafe the Hydra in front of Ravyn, getting 4 strafe-shots. I used the animus on Saeryn so only have 3 Fury to play with and Ravyn ends with 6 life.
Second Seraph only gets 3 shots, misses Ravyn with a "9" when it needed a 10, kills the Magister. Second Angelius runs to engage Hydra and a couple of Invictors. Warder which used animus last turn just runs to engage another Invictor or two.
Ah, yes, I had too much Fury around, so my Forsaken charges Nayl which takes away its Fury, but also cleans the Seraph for next turn.
His turn, he must kill me. Or hide Ravyn. Ravyn feats and advances the Hydra 3 with her spell, free-strike from Angelius doesn't pass through the force-field. MHSF and 1 Stormfall Archer get to shoot my poor Saeryn, she is left with 3 life and 0 Fury after a couple of transfers (he rolled 6-7 damage a couple of times on 2d6-4...) (BTW, thank you Force Barrier, or those Stormfall Archers would've been the death of me). Forsaken on front right side dies to enemy.
More Striders die, he takes free-strikes against the 1 Invictor in melee with the Angelius and then CRAs the angelius... not sure why, with 1 big CRA of 8 people. I think he should have taken a couple of shots, if not more, and moved to block some LoS to Ravyn (and keep them over 2" away to ensure no strafing...). Hydra moves, he's missing like 0.5" at most to get LoS to Saeryn and kill her (4 Focus, auto-boosted attack roll, we checked later, he'd have hit), but the LoS line passes over the forest.
My turn, give ignore free-strike stratagem to nearby Seraph, and think of how to win... have Saeryn, two Seraphs and an Angelius. Ravyn has 6 life. I make Saeryn go first so she'll heal the Seraph, just in case, and she walks about 6" forward (needed to move to the side to clear the forest edge as well) and a double-boosted Hellfire later Ravyn is dead.
I think if he had time, but we were a bit short, and more time to think, he should've screened Ravyn better, certainly the 2" in front of her would've been harder, but still. He moved a couple of Stormfall Archers, he could've moved the Invictors, perhaps even ran them, to block LoS. The MHSF almost all stood and aimed in an attempt to drop Saeryn. But he still should've somehow blocked some more LoS, though I doubt he could've protected from two Seraphs, an Angelius and Saeryn.
It was a good hard game. Phoenix didn't do too much, killed some Striders.
If I were to do it again I'd probably drop the Warder and an Angelius for Carni/Typhon and then fill the last 3/2 points with something.
