I've just started Hordes and I am looking for some advice on getting started. At the moment I only have the Legion starter box plus Abby and a Raek. I've only played one game thus far and the Raek worked well but I'm not sure about what else to use. I misplayed my Carnivean and it died opening up a charge lane to Abby, then I lost.
I know I want to use Abby, a Raek, a Carnivean, and a Shredder or two. Any advice on how best to build this up to 25/35pts would be appreciated.

I'd look into typhon, a shepherd, a forsaken and an angelius. that should take you into 35.

Mmm....
Abby -5
-Carnivean 11
-Raek 4
-Shredder 2
-Shredder 2
thats 14pts thier... any thoughts of what direction of purchases you would like to go?
Abby likes at least 2 heavys I find. Carnivean a great pick, also Typhon and Angelius work really well. Of course the new Legion heavy that will come out in many months is also looking great.
If your serious with sticking with Abby I would suggest the Typhon as your next heavy to pick up. Its great with all of our warlocks, and Loves Forced Evolution (of if its your cup of team, God Mode). Carnivore could also be intersting in giving the Typhon a Mat 9 :D
That right thier pushes you into 25pt realm
Abby -5
-Typhon 12
-Carnivean 11
-Raek 4
-Shredder 2
24pts
For 25pts you could then just toss in a Shepard for fury mangement.
For kicking it to 35pts I would suggest picking up some Infantry unit. Blighted Swordsmen or Legionaries. This gives the list body count, along with the ability to tarpit targets if need be, and provide a different type of attack. Along with clearing out junk around your warbeasts.
As to which unit to pick up... its personal preference. Swordsmen/Legionarries/Warmongers all have thier advantages.
Also don't over look Gatormen, who function very similar to warmongers with a bit more self reliance, and also make a great target for Abys Carnivore spell. Since it interfers with warmonger Berzerk.
Personaly I would lean more towards blighted Sword or Legionarries because they provide more body count then the Multi-wound models.

Typhon seems to be in everyone's list on these forums so I was thinking about adding it eventually anyway. I love the models for the Warmongers and was thinking of including them soon.
Here's what I was thinking.
25pts
Abby -5
-Carnivean 11
-Typhon 12
-Raek 4
-Shredder 2
-Shepherd 1
35pts
Abby -5
-Carnivean 11
-Typhon 12
-Raek 4
-Shredder 2
-Shredder 2
-Shepherd 1
-Warmongers 5
-War Chief 3
Good stuff so far. Let's keep the advice flowing.

Something to consider is that carnivore does not synergise well with those warmongers because it makes berzerk not work. Also a full unit is probably better than a small unit and warchief.
The Abby list I am playing at the moment is:
Abby
Typhon
Carnivean
Raek
Full swordsmen and UA
Forsaken
Its very good.
If you prefer warmongers (just put carnivean on something else) you could put full warmongers and a chief in instead of the swordsmen. Not sure where shredders would fit in. I don't think they're very good but at least Abby has a away to heal a bunch of them if needed. Maybe try a pack of 4 instead of warmongers.
Abby
Typhon
Carnivean
Raek
4 Shredders
Forsaken
Forsaken
Shepherd

Since I bought the starter box I'd like to get some mileage out of the four Shredders that came with it. I know they're not that great but they are fun to use. Once I have a better selection of mini's they'll likely be dropped.
Warmongers and The Forsaken seem far too effective to not be taken.
How's this look for 35pts?
Abby -5
-Carnivean 11
-Typhon 12
-Raek 4
-3 Shredders 6
-Warmongers (min) 5
-Forsaken 2

Necra,
How do you tend to rotates Abby's buffs?
Could a Carnivean be swapped for a Scythean + Shredder or would that reduce this style of build's effectiveness?
