A while back, Seraphsong posted pics of his dipped Legion, and on the last page, someone mentioned another type of Minwax Floor Polish, a chestnut color, would anyone still have info about either of these?

Yeah, on a different forum that guy posted...
I go a little different route than benesh, I tried the polyshades and I had marginal success (was my first attempts and I got way to light of a color)
This led me to trying straight up Wood Finish (the stuff that comes in the yellow cans)
I got the Dark Walnut, which is basically an almost black/brown stain, I went the dipping route instead of the brushing on, so you will need to shake em afterward. I let them sit for about 20-30mins, and then wipe them down with a paper towel. The wood finish drys much slower than the polyshades (takes about 48 hours to be completely dry) so with the paper towel I try to wipe up everything but the darker shading in the nooks and crannys. I tried using cotton swabs too which worked pretty well, just be careful because if the cotten part is too loose, it will leave stuff stuck to your model.
So my process from start to finish is
Put together model
Prime Model
Paint base coats (use bright colors)
Dip and Shake
wait a bit
Wipe up
Let dry
