Whilst Retribution and Trolls are the focus at the moment I have a lot of other armies that are operational. My Khador scheme was inspired by Jakob Nielsen's gorgeous work on the Butcher and Man of Wars and has largely stuck in that realm with some slight modifications over the years.

I'm also now going through and sprucing up old paint jobs as I paint new figures as well to reflect that I have actually gotten better over the years of painting.

Really like these, Beast 09 in particular. No one can question who he is. I tried a black scheme a few years ago and didn't pan out too well. When I saw these for some reason I thought of the black knight :)

The black and gold scheme rocks! It may be from the pics, but it seems the highlight could use a lighter color. Its really hard to distinguish and makes the plate armor on the Drakhun blend in with one another too much. But otherwise, very nice looking stuff there bud.

The highlight at the moment is coal black and then a badab black wash over the top to lessen it a little. It's my bloody awful photos at the moment that aren't showing them. You can just about make it on the shoulder pads of the IFP standard bearer in the focused shot.

I thought that might be the case. I tend to get the same affect on my Space Wolves as I tend to not make such a pronounced highlight on them since they are grey. The pics really do bleed the highlight right out of them.

You'll need a lot more light around your miniature to properly photograph blacks and their highlights. Yellowish incandescents also don't help.

Back when I played Khador, I painted my army in a similar scheme, and I've always loved the way it turned out. I'm glad to see someone execute such a striking scheme so well! All in all, a fantastic job and a cool paint scheme!

I'd been wondering what black Khador would look like and it appears they'd look pretty damn spanking! These guys look nice and striking whilst being good and cohesive, very nice indeed.

I like the idea, but the execution seems a wee bit off. I would suggest using a mix of coal-black + thamar black to do alot more shading, so you can get a little more definition in there. It will certainly help the models "pop".

Over-all, Kudos. I wouldn't take the time to be such a down if I didnt't think you deserved it.

What's the purpose of the Delvan wash? Doesn't the blackwash pretty well cover it up?

Verjigorm - the Coal black is there as a sharper highlight and I'm not blending on these guys. The black wash ties it back it in.

Onitora - the devlan mud makes it look grubbier and more lived in. The black wash on it's own just makes it look too clean. If i was doing them at the same time I'd use armour wash as that is similar to the two mixed together.

I do my Khador in a Brass and Black scheme, so I approve of your color choice. :)

One thing to note, since there's so much black, you need more lighting when you're taking pictures of the models, else it kind of blurs together. The overhead shot of the models on the table were much better than the close ups.

Just noticed the metal on the boiler needs tidying up.

Apart from that that finishes all my outstanding Khador Jacks for a bit (well except the one I have in the spares box to sell). Going to grab a few shortly to fill out holes and to also allow some magnetising to be done.

Then a Marauder. This is a jack I'd been avoiding getting, but then I've heard some useful uses for it and I had spare bits so I put him together. That catches me up to date on my Khador jacks until I pick up Black Ivan to use with Harkevitch.

The Vanguard is painted to be used by both Zerkova in the Hunting Wolves tier list and for Ashlynn hence why I've gone for the scheme I have.

This gives me 3 minimum squads (including my stand ins) or a min and a max with 2 underbosses for Zerkova's theme.

Not sure what will be next. Possibly Harkevitch and Black Ivan or the starter box. Depends on events I have to run and when I can get hold of things.

normally I would criticise people that went with a black colour scheme as it takes less time and effort being that black is a pretty standard priming colour, but there is nothing to joke about with these paint jobs. Beautiful work. One of the best things about black as a base colour is that it makes every single other colour on the model stick out because it is so contrasting to other colours. I think I will be referring some people at my LGS to this thread if they are agonising over a colour scheme for a khador army as this is really somthing special.

First off I got the starter box and I ended up doing the Khador half to demo at shows. Sorscha had been sat waiting since I got the battlebox, but this prompted me to do a new version of her. Her old longstanding version will still get to come to shows as I still need a battlebox to play alongside the starter box.

Pretty standard stuff for Harkevitch. Not really any space to go mad on him.

Now for Black Ivan I had to deal with the fact that Black would not be that unusual a scheme for a jack in my army. I looked around at various paintjobs and found Tom Schadle's version. So in fact Black Ivan has red to differentiate himself. Don't tell anyone.

Other armies are being the focus for playing and painting at the moment, but picked up the new Khador plastic kit which I planned to magnetise, but thanks to the construction of the kit with some lovely built in pins I've managed to get it to work without magnets.

Demolisher and Devastator from the same jack. Which works well if I want a second Devastator. Getting another kit to have a plastic Spriggan as my metal one doesn't like travelling.

I like how dark everything is and it blends well with most of the models. However, the small bursts of color (red and gold) I don't feel are enough. If you brought in some lighter grays/blacks to give contrast, play with the natural lighting and shadows of everything would be outstanding. Not to mention show off a few of those fine details. But these are just some suggestions. Overall, I really like them and admire the hard work.
