View Full Version : Kakita's Khador: Traditional Red and Alternate Schemes
11-23-2009, 11:41 PM
Due to only 4 photos per post, I'll have to be doing some crazy posting. Hope you guys bear with me.
Post 1 will be most recent paints, post 2 onwards will be consolidations of my painting in the various colour schemes. I'll put in links to the specific posts in the first thread also.

Traditional Red Khador
You can kinda see my progression over the years. I started with the traditional red colour scheme. then as I progressed, I decided to do more ambitious projects, or go with alternate colour schemes. These are the first few minis I painted for Khador.
My first conversion project. This cannon is stuck on with blue tack so it doubles as both Juggy and Destroyer where needed.

Traditional Red Khador Part 2
The Kovnik got modded with a 2 handed pose because I think it makes more sense and looks better like this. His slam isn't tied to the shield after all.
I'm pretty proud of him. It took me forever to paint his wrinkles.
I like my old witch too. Will have to post pictures of Scrappy one of these days.

Traditional Red Khador part 3: The Invasion of Llael
Unfortunately I never actually properly finished this diorama. But you can get the idea.
Modded behemoth. he has different bombards, and I also magnetized them.
Irusk's Kodiak. yes that is him punching out a wall, with Kell and Irusk surveying the Battlefield
'Full' Diorama. Never got finished >.>;;

There're a lot more... just let me get around to finally taking pictures of them >.>;;

Post 6: Just in case.

Winter's Guard Khador (Ice Blue/White Scheme)
I first started off my Ice Blue Winter Khador with Widowmakers
Also, Eiryss, who was my first Merc

Winter's Guard Khador (Ice Blue/White Scheme) Part 2
Followed by my Drakhun
11-23-2009, 11:48 PM
Finally the Beast and Winterguard, my most recent paints.
The beast was pretty converted... grinding down the ice, lengthening the ace, replacing the head with a Marauder's and some geenral plasticard and puttywork for the pose. Oh, also a scenic base.
Some semi speed painted WG in prep for MK2

Autumn Fall Khador (Orange Theme)
I had a whole story for these guys: part of the old witch's retinue, they managed to scrape together some money to buy a battered Marauder.
One of these days I'll post up my Kossites (which are converted from Kossites and Cutt throats)

Fun Diorama Picture!
And.... that's it guys. Feel free to post. I'll update when I have them (I think I need to get Karchev and the like painted up).
Love you Old witch and the alt scheme, both look wonderful.
Not too keen on the weird juggy/destroyer thing you got there ;)
11-24-2009, 05:11 AM
That Beast 09 looks great. You got a fantastic amount of motion out of a pretty static model. Love it.
11-24-2009, 05:39 AM
Nice stuff! I like the Autumnfall colours.
11-24-2009, 05:42 AM
I'm really diggin' the Ice Blue scheme, fantastic looking force!
11-24-2009, 06:59 AM
All of it realy kicks *word filter*. I dig the Destroyer/Juggernaut conversion for it's complete over-the-topness :D
I like the autumnfall Marauder especially, that's a very nice scheme and, dare I say, looks the best of the 'jacks to me.
11-24-2009, 07:39 AM
What I love about your ice blue scheme is that it actually looks like they're wearing white and are lit up by the moon. Very cool effect, intentional or not.
11-24-2009, 07:43 AM
I have to say that I love me my red jacks, but after a while... it gets boring. Which is why alternate schemes are always so fun.
Mercykiller: You know it took me a while to figure out what 'word filter' meant. And yeah, the juggy will always hold a special place in my heart; both for being over the top and for being my first foray into plasticard and kittbashing ever.
JTY: Coming from you that's high praise. Iiiiiii think that the Marauder was the most recent paint job and one that I took a long time with, so I'm glad that the time spent shows. I love me my Bloodstone.
11-24-2009, 07:57 AM
All those paint schemes are very good, congratulations!!!
the devastator is always funny too see, but probably the adversaries think the contrary when they are so near!!!

I loved painting the mini easter egg on the devastator... it's too bad very few people get to see it: I usually use my devvie as a bulldozer rather than grenade. =)
11-24-2009, 04:59 PM
Autumn fall colours = win. I really like the scheme :)
11-24-2009, 05:14 PM
Those are some great looking models, the Marauder has a nice colour scheme. I really like the burnt orange.
11-24-2009, 06:42 PM
Ice blue scheme on Widowmakers and Iryss is awesome looking - actually feels chilly :)
But that diorama (finished or not) is a work of art !!
Love the face, staff and glow from the furnace on the Old Witch too.
11-24-2009, 07:41 PM
Whoo! Looks like the alt colour schemes are a hit, thanks guys. If I have more jacks and units I'll see if I can paint more of them up in these alt colours.
I'll also need to finally finish the diorama one of these days >.>;;
11-25-2009, 07:24 AM
Kakita, great job. The alt schemes are great and very well executed. While I have seen and painted similar Ice Blue/White on my models the Orange is new and very nice (you may see some on a model or two of mine in the near future).
Great job and we would love to see more.
11-25-2009, 07:43 AM
I am LOVING that Beast 09. I mean wow. Its intense man!
11-25-2009, 11:30 AM
Daaaaaaang this is some top notch Khador but i am digging your dioramas in particular, something i always wished i had the patience to create.
11-25-2009, 11:14 PM
Well, in all honesty I never finished it either so I don't really have the patience for it either >.>;;
Huron, just ask if you want to know the colour schemes =)
11-28-2009, 10:45 AM
Great job. I'm feeling the Ice blue with traditional red, it really makes it pop.
Big ups on the Beast, that looks fantastic, and really combats the stock "action figure" pose well.
Why did you grind off the ice on the beast?
Other than that, I extremely enjoy all of this. Autumnfall colors are sweet. Your paint style is clean and well executed.
12-10-2009, 11:38 AM
The Autumnfall Color scheme is full of Win. I especially love the leave insignia you added.
12-10-2009, 12:17 PM
My personal favorites are Beast 09 (awesome), Old Witch, and the Mechanik.
12-10-2009, 11:36 PM
thanks guys! I like putting some small touches here and there to personalize my jacks; nothing huge just a little 'easter egg' of sorts. And all red all the time can get SO boring.
AAI: At the angle of beast's axe, Icicles don't make sense. It would have been projecting off at some weird angle, which is why I got rid of the icicles.
12-11-2009, 03:33 AM
About time you put up your models on the PP big boards. Have you gotten round to painting those annoying Kayazy yet? XP
Love the diorama. ^_^
12-11-2009, 03:58 AM
"If you can read this you are too close"
That had me rolling. :D
Beast 09 and the Marauder are lovely work, very nice. How did you do the snow? It looks like it would melt if you took it inside.
12-13-2009, 07:41 AM
Phenomenal work! The icy blue scheme gives me an idea on how to to mine.
12-16-2009, 01:36 AM
I like your diorama a lot. Can you post some pictures from your kodiak? It looks really badass, the pose, etc.
12-16-2009, 12:55 PM
Love the red/blue scheme, it looks fantastic
08-31-2010, 04:44 PM
Great paint jobs! Whats your color choice for the burnt orange paint scheme?
08-31-2010, 04:58 PM
That orange scheme is fantastic!
I love the way that looks.
08-31-2010, 05:09 PM
Very nice. Some good threadomancy here as well, 8 monthes between posts is pretty good.
08-31-2010, 07:33 PM
I always liked red and white Khador, but that ice blue and red is awesome.
03-23-2011, 04:35 AM
WOW, I really am diggin that icey blue paint scheme very nice :)
03-23-2011, 07:08 AM
You make Khador look SEXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
03-23-2011, 02:08 PM
Dude, that is awesome works. If I weren't new to painting minis, I would copy what you did there. Is there a chance of you telling us how you did all that?
03-24-2011, 01:01 PM
That is some really, really good deep red. A lot better than the "obviously orange or pink with a red glaze" lifeless look I often see. It has the richness and depth of velvet.
04-05-2011, 10:45 AM
Whoa thanks guys! Notme: anything specific you're interested in finding out?
I'll be updating this thread soon, so stay tuned!
10-30-2011, 02:46 PM
Your Marauder is so SICK!!
10-30-2011, 06:51 PM
Hot dang, man! Your work's excellent.
What did you use on the Marauder, man? I've been thinking about doing scheme like that for my Khador for the past week, but being the novice I am wasn't sure where to start.
10-31-2011, 08:29 AM
Do you take commisions? I'd love to field an autumn or winter force.
02-14-2012, 03:29 PM
I'd love to know what colors you used to get that ice blue effect.
12-12-2012, 06:25 AM
I haven't come to the forums in forever but I figure I should update this so hope no one minds the thread necromancy.
I'll start off with the colour scheme that I have been really into recently, my 'ceremonial' Khador of warm whites and reds. First up, the model that got me a gold in Gencon... Last year? With the 4 img rule limiting the number of photos, I'd recommend checking out more shots over on my website here (http://www.herebegeeks.com/games/workshop-wednesday-the-dragon-of-khador-a-belated-gencon-showing/).
12-12-2012, 06:28 AM
Crap, forgot about the silly forum crash of yesteryear, please ignore this post and let is sink back into oblivion guys! I might as well do a reset and update of my models. >.>;;
