Hey everyone!

I thought I'd keep you all updated on a painting challenge that myself and two friends are undertaking. The challenge will be to each paint a 35-point Hordes army as quickly as you can. The winner gets one painted figure from each of the other two "losers" (though getting motivated to paint a full army is pretty sweet). There's no time limit, we just gotta get it finished.

A subtle suggestion of the competition is to display the armies as they're being painted in the LGS I work at, in order to show gamers that painting an army can be done quickly and effectively. All three "contestants" are experienced painters and have painted both in painstaking detail, and for time. Out of all the various games we sell, WM/H seems to be the one that people have the most trouble painting </anecdotal>, therefore we hope to motivate people to slap some paint on their figures.

In any event, I'll be posting some pictures on my gaming blog (http://thewargamer.blogspot.com/) (it also pops up on the Iron Agenda Blogging Network (http://blog.ironagenda.com/)), so if you'd like you can follow along. I'll be painting a Legion of Everblight force, in the theme of drow (sadly, no cool spider conversions due to time, and lack of ideas); the other Vancouver-based "contestant" will be doing a Skorne force using Army Painter's dipping method, and the third "contestant" is based out of Ontario and will be doing a Cryx force. I'll post some pictures tonight and do a writeup of the army list.

P.S. Coincidentally, I think I'll use this force for Blasted Heath instead of my beloved Retribution. This is my first Hordes army, and I thought I'd debut them in style.

There've been some updates (http://thewargamer.blogspot.com/) as of late, the most shocking being that one person finished! On the 7th of June (that's right, a 35 point army in a week), one of the three contestants finished his Skorne army. I'm half done, and the third painter is ahead of myself as well. We're going to continue and see who comes in second place.

All my blog posts on the subject can also be viewed on the Iron Agenda Blogging Network (http://blog.ironagenda.com/)as well.

I just saw the result of the Skorne players dipping method. Works rather well. Even got me to order my own dip. Hopefully ill get to see yours soon too :)

Soon... Soon... I have but 9 models to paint. Unfortunately, the third competitor has one model left to paint. Though I'll be last, I'm pretty psyched that I'm almost done an entire army in just 11 days.

So it took me 31 days, but I've finished my 35 points, putting me in 2nd place. Though it took me a month to do, I did only paint the army in 7 sittings. Meaning, if I had painted every day it would have only taken me a month. That being said, I spread it out over 31 days. However I hope this shows that you can do a good-looking army in around a week or two if you paint for an hour or two a day, and that painting an army isn't such a daunting task.

Check it out here (http://thewargamer.blogspot.com/2010/07/hordes-painting-challenge-day-31.html). I'll post a picture of the whole army tomorrow.
