View Full Version : Protectorate Vassal Mechanik On Front Page!

For those with work filters...
http://privateerpress.com/files/products/Vassal-Mechanic_CLPD.png
Prayer alone does not maintain the warjacks of the Protectorate. The mechaniks who learn their trade from the Vassals of Menoth view their duties as a holy necessity. They follow the Protectorate’s warjacks into the thick of battle, using the ’jacks themselves as moving fortresses. Armed only with his tools, the mechanik’s greatest weapon is his expertise to keep the warjacks running no matter how severe their damage.

While he looks incredibly bad ***, he looks rather Cryx-y with his gas mask and long leather apron with all sorts of tools and bits. However, the religious iconography that was slapped onto him looks classy. I like it.
I like the way he looks now I want his stats! Protectorate is complete muhahaha!

I don't know much else. Maybe they'll be as awesome as Arcanists, and have some additional abilities.

I would have preferred the "Quiet Riot" metal mask than the gas mask, but other than that it looks great...

Good things come to those who wait.... Me likey thank you PP finally a preview!
Hopefully he will be a 1 point solo.
edit:
Vassal Mechanik comes in a blister (PIP 32064). A player may field three Vassal Mechaniks for each warcaster in a Protectorate army.

It sounds like he might have a form of System Bypass instead of repair from the description.
That would keep the Protectorate as the only faction without Repair, while still giving them something functionally similar, if PP cares about that at all still (I think the boards cared a lot more about the Khador has no Lights! Protectorate can't Repair! stuff than the devs ever did).

I really like him, and he looks like he will fit well aesthetically in a HR/Testament list.
And if you don't like the gas mask, you could always swap out a Choir acolyte head.
And now that we finally got our preview, I guess this means we won't burn down Privatter Press HQ :p

Nice to see some Prot on the front page. The model is decent, lots of character. I am interested to see what he can do for the jacks. Looks like maybe if a whole system goes down he can repair it, with all that stuff in his pack.

I've always thought the Menofix looked like one of those 4 in 1 wrenches anyway, so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

I'm so hoping Cygnar gets some kind of jack buffer in the book. I know it's not likely, but you'd think the most advanced warjack in Immoen would have some kind support network.

This is why they are moving to plastic heavies. They knew about what they were doing all along...
Wild Speculation: 1pt solo with a d6 repair, skill 7 or 8. That's it. Why, you ask? Because if he ALSO buffed 'jacks, in a way different from the Choir and the Vassal... sillyness would abound.
Abound. Think about that for a second...
Demeritus
12-07-2009, 02:20 PM
If all he does is repair for 1pt (and this is my assumption and fervent hope that he is 1pt), I want to see him have a repair of 9.
Considering what else is in the faction, repair 7 is likely all he'll get. Maaaybe 8, but I doubt it. I mean, he is more or less a chained slave... can't expect him to be working miracles here!
This makes him inferior to the Arcanist, you say? True. But he's the only guy the elves get for non-caster 'jack buffing and repair, and he's a one-wound guy. And while the two mechanic units would be better, they're also more expensive and the assistants are worse.
But ya know, I could be wrong, and they could just be making Menoth the ultimate 'jack faction. We'll just have to wait and see. :P

I think the Protectorate having a mechanik is not really braking the mold. But if we ever had the in faction ability to Marshal without limiting what we can field??? than Khador can get Arc nodes, Cygnar can get Top notch melee Jacks, and Cryx can get a better faction :P

True - also got to factor in that the Arcanist is only FA:2 where as all of the other factions (including Menoth now) get a FA:3 cheap-o repair option...
If the Arcanist was FA:3 he'd be a bit broken with his excellent support buffs - for that reason, I doubt he'll be much of a buffer (and it's not like that would be needed...)
I'm expecting Repair (8), Iron Sentinel, perhaps Jack Marshal? But nothing really good, because lets face it, the Protectorate 3 ring circus of jack buffing doesn't need much more... Who knows though - perhaps he'll just give all your jacks eyeless sight and double their movement and be done with it... :p

I think comparing Protectorate repair models to Khador light jacks is way off. Khador not building light jacks for their armies is a big part of the fluff and their attitude to war - it's part of what makes them distinct in their background. The Protectorate not being able to repair has nothing to do with the background - if they can build jacks, obviously they can repair them too, there is no "we don't repair our jacks" aspect in the Protectorate fluff that I am aware of. The reason they haven't had a way to repair jacks in game before (just like Cryx didn't until Mortenebra) is just because it's been low priority, but in Mk2, jacks are being given more attention, so now Cryx and Menoth are being given repair facilities too. Makes sense to me.

Its a very cool looking fig and I am not surprised that Menoth got a mechanic, after all someone builds and repairs there jacks outside of battle, couldn't they tag along at some point? I don't think we will be breaking molds that make more sense, such as no lights for Khador, go heavy or go home.

I agree. Don't forget that Vassal's are supposed to be mages and mechanics from other counties who have been shanghaied into service for the greater good of the Protectorate. Just makes me wonder why their so compliant.

Just FYI, the Retribution book made it sound like their infantry lugged around arc nodes before they started building Myrmidons.
