View Full Version : Seriously the filter makes me cry

It sensors the word *** seriously *** its not even considered rude I mean I can understand ***** or ****** or **** or ****** or **** or **** or ***** or any of the other nasty words that get bandied about.

But *** I mean you can call someone an *** its not that bad you can be an *** I am alot of the time but where I draw the line is when I can no longer say that something is kick ***.

or you tell someone to kick ***.

Is the forum really so PC that we can't use that word are we reduced to saying bum now.

Seriously all your hordes players get out there and kick bum this field test play like you have a pair with all your hardcore bum kicking.

I think the filter made me die a little on the inside

I'm pretty sure PP are aware of this problem, but at the moment there are more important issues to be dealt with, so the filter is on the list. Just be patient.

The profanity filter is being improved. In the meantime, I would advise against trying to find out which parts of it are being improved.

I noticed when looking back on a post I had made a while back that the name of my favorite Irish Stout is now filtered...

Budweiser?

Schlitz?

Pabst Blue Ribbon?

Nope they all work.

Is this a conspiracy by horrible American beers to defame the only beer that drinks like a meal?!?

So does this mean your adding more semi offensive words to the filter are we going to lose bum and poop and crap and damn next.

OH GOD

I'm going to be reduced to calling someone a henpecking dingle berry next

PPS_Simon

Every time someone complains that they can't use their favorite semi-naughty word I am tempted to add three more.

But, no, the filter is being made more permissive. The old forums used a very different system for filtering and we could not port it over directly.

some alternatives.

plank : "You plank!"
twigs : "What a total pile of twigs" also works with figs.
Pits: "it's the Pits"
muck: "pile of dog's muck!"

Personally I find the filter to be quite amusing. in all my years here I think the worst I've ever said was hell (as in, "What the...) This isn't the place for profanity, there be children about (and never mind the they've probably heard worse at home argument.)

And while the Dickensian idea is quite novel, I think I prefer the IK "Swear like you have a Pair" idea that kakita came up with. Strumpet is cool too, definitely not used enough in this day and age.

Orange n' pear - swear. That confused me for a few minutes, because it's one i didn't know, but i did know apple n' pears - stairs, which obvioulsy doesn't fit the original context at all.

Sorry Simon. I get carried away sometimes. I will behave, at least while Santa is on alert. (um, you didn't send him any sort of notification did you?)
Actually, I was intrigued, and did a few searches. Turns out there are quite a few filters out there that have solved our problem of forbidding certain varieties of fungus (---take mushrooms etc). A few are free, and one, usable which was fully supported, was under $100, not sure what the condtions are for use on a commercial site, most seemed aimed at bloggers. A couple claim to have solved the A$& / %#$@ type stuff as well, but I couldn't actually find them implemented and try 'em out.

Again, Sorry for being a wisebum.:o

Also fun filter story. One of my paint ball forums' filters would replace the three letter word for one's back side with "donkey" This created a new team:

Somehow, no one on their team seemed to appreciate it as much. :D

Also, +1 on the Dickensian cursing filter!
