Oh, cool. That looks like the original B&W art for Harlan, only in colour. It makes me wonder whether the original art was in colour to begin with, or if it was redone for this release.

His card says Illus by Chippy and Chris Walton, which confuses me.

I really like him. Very characterful and nice to see a morrowan with abilities you'd expect to see on a Protectorate piece. I also really like the cards.
BTW what is a thamarite?
Blessed and purgation together, and on melee and ranged. Wow. Very nice. He can walk up to buffed units and blow them away with multifire or pump boosted rounds into a single buffed target. I've always liked how purgation is a disincentive to the use of upkeeps but this is really blatant. You don't need to dispel upkeeps if the opponent is too scared to use them in the first place.

I'll be sure to order him ASAP, good model + good rules.

someone who worships Thamar.
At the moment the Precursors share the same animosity as Harlan.
Fiona and her cultists are the only Thamarites released so far IIRC

Likely the B&W art was done by Chippy and CW colored it.

Yay, more cryx hate! BOOOOO.
That being said, why did Orin Midwinter lose his boosted damaged vs troops with upkeeps while this dude gains it? Just wondering.
Who's that guy from the old Comics, Solomon Kane? I love that guy, this witch hunter reminds me of him and I'll probably use him as my first non faction model bought simply to paint.

Not really, but Cryx is limited to the more unscrupulous ones (Steelheads, pirates, Gorman, Croe, etc.

There was no need for color art in the B&W books and it would've probably doubled the painting time, so I doubt it started in color. It's very easy to colour shaded B&W art in Photoshop-- in fact, a huge proportion of digital artists do their pictures entirely in B&W and then color afterward. That method tends to result in a much more realistic and well-proportioned rendering.

Those are sweet rules. I was hoping for a medium based Exemplar solo with Purgation (a lesser Reznik), but Harlan is pretty badass. Sure POW 10 is not that high, but he has both Purgation and Blessed. That is really cool.

I thought he was outlawed because he was studying infernalism (to better fight it but still...)
I wonder if this means he is back with the illuminated ones.

Where did you get this bit of background? Harlan Versh has been described as the consumate Illuminated One, not as someone expelled and outlawed. Did I miss reading something important along the way?
Trained to hunt witches and worse, the wizards of the Order of Illumination, known simply as the Illuminated, serve to protect western Immoren from the threat of witchcraft. As one might expect of any group with such an aggressive mission, the Order of Illumination counts numerous powers among its enemies - chiefly the insidious Infernals. Their consummate foe, Illuminated One Harlan Phineas Versh prepares to banish their darkness with a blast of his blessed quad-iron.

Considering the trend in MKII towards overcosting Mercs, I can't believe he's only 2 points. My Magnus Army is gonna love him!

I've read about him being outlawed somewhere as well. I just can't remember where. I'll have a look if i can find it for you Whimper.

From his release details:
"Harlan Versh is among the most formidable soldiers trained by the Order of Illumination, a man who is uncompromising when confronting forces of darkness. His former order expelled him after he defied orders and prematurely terminated men he suspected of infernalism and black magic. He insists he still serves the Church of Morrow and stands ready to wield his blessed quad-iron pistol against any unholy creatures stirring in the shadows. Harlan Versh comes in a blister. Harlan Versh will work for Cygnar and Khador as well as the mercenary contracts The Four Star Syndicate and The Highborn Covenant. A player may field one Harlan Versh in his Mercenary or faction army."
He was expelled because he was too thorough.

I like this guy from every angle - rules, background and model.
I always like it when Mercs from the non-military side of the IK show up in the game, as it gives the world more depth and personality. There's a lot of character in Mercs like Versh, Anastasia DeBray and the Pirates that the Factions can't provide, due to their nature, and they tend to move the storyline along in interesting ways. Now if only Reinholdt would show up more in the background... ;)

Yes, thanks for posting that. It's funny, though- if the Order of Illumination expelled Versh, shouldn't his card read "Ex-Illuminated One"?

Epic nothin', I just want the potential that the little guy has as a storytelling device fulfilled. That is to say, if he were to go Epic, I'd at least like to see him do something first. ;)

As an Illuminated One (and thus a Wizard) I was expecting some Magic Ability and Spells. Either way, I'm still happy with this route though, and he definitely has a place in many armies.

Indeed! I love this guy the more I look at him. The model alone is AMAZING! I love the book of Morrow in one hand, and a HUGE Quad-Iron in the other. It reminds me of the comic book Preacher, the godly man out to rid the world of demonic forces.
Love love love love love it!!!

The order of illumination are mages but I am sure they use armed men as well to cover their weaknesses, from what I know of Versh he is very fanatical and shunned by some parts of the church for that reason, he's a stop-at-nothing witch hunter.

Can anyone confirm for certain that Versh's card will be in the new merc Deck when it's released, if so then I won't bother wasting PP's time and my International postage in sending off for the card....
I'm thinking it will be.... but don't want to miss out..
I have a feeling you'll be disappointed if you expect to see the card in the merc deck. The model is just being released now, and will come with a MKII card. The faction decks only contain cards for models that existed in MKI, and this isn't one of them. Soooo if you've got the model, scrounge up some stamps and send in the letter to get a free card. ;)

And here I was thinking, "man, I may JUST MAY include a GMCA in my army..."
friggin A privateer. Really?! 2 point model? Free boost on upkeep targets? Can fire 4 shots?
same range and damage. 2 less rat and 1 def for two armor and STEALTH. Is this just to rub our face in it? I try not to blast PP, but why would I ever take a GMCA over this?
what solo hunting? I can just send my ATGM w/ UA after solos and have this guy killing friggin units.

Very cool.
I noticed that his gun is named "Malleus." That is "hammer" in Latin and is reminiscent of a title of that most infamous of real witch hunter manuals, the Malleus Maleficarum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malleus_Maleficarum).
