Good job! I like the blacklining. I, too, decided to just use P3 stuff for my Retribution stuff, which is turning out great so far.

Hey Lofty! Hope you are keeping well. Thanks for your kind comments. Will attempt to the mage hunter assassin today.
@Metalsmike. lol. those pesky elves are a handful indeed. I have got allot of retribution models and I at first found it very daunting to get them all painted. Breaking my collection down into MK2 points has helped me and my focus.
So I am attempting to paint them step by step. So a 15 point army, then 35point and so on.
Seems to bee working well so far.

It's the way to go. You actually get to field a fully painted army for a smaller game, then it helps motivate you - "Hey, one more unit and I'll be fully painted at 25 pts..."

Hi Sam :)
I'm great thanks, yourself? I see what you mean about it all being a bit daunting. I'm trying to paint each batch of model purchases before moving onto buying more, so I don't have too much unpainted stuff to do at once. I aim to have everything I field in my first WM game painted at once :P
Loving the Chimera btw, nice combo of pink and blue :)

Going great cheers Sam :) got my Sentinels, Invictors, Kaelyssa, Vyros and a Griffon painted, with one of each heavies primed, and a magnetic Myrmidon on the work bench, still having alot of fun waiting for my first game :P thanks for asking!
Really like the scheme you are using here, really crisp, and the colours work well together.
I need some solos....

Griffon to be painted next.

What colors did you use for the pink?
Samhordes
12-14-2009, 11:24 AM
I started with (all P3 paints)
1.Base colour over black: Skorne Red
2. 50% SKorne Red & Khador Red base (deliberately leaving shades of shorne red)
3. Khador red base (leaving shades of the first two steps
4. Khador red base 50% and Heartfire 50% (leaving shades for all the above)
5. a little bit of Heart fire
6. 50% heart fire and 50% morrow white (the bottom of the warjack pink bit is dark red working all the way up to the top bit gets brighter)
7. 50% morrow white and 50% carnal pink
For the Hair of the assassin it was
1. base colour beaten purple over black.
2. 70% roughly beaten purple 30% roughly morrow white
3. 50% beathen purple 50% morrow white
4. A lining of carnal pink on the hair
5. a highlight of the lining with carnal pink 50% and 50% morrow white.
hope that helps

Sam

@Aii
Just to give you a visual idea on the P3 range I use, I think I have all the paints except 3 of them. I must say as some who is as picky regarding paint brushes I am very impressed with the P3 brushes and will be sticking with these for the years to come, hope this helps:

My full 15pt Retribution Mage Hunter Strike force fully painted and based now. I used modelling putty to do the bases. They really feel like an assassination hit squad.

DId you make the bases or buy them? Either way they look great.

01-04-2010, 10:55 PM
:) Hey thanks for all the comments,
Regarding the bases: I hand sculpted them myself. I would encourage others to try it out as it is not that daunting as it may look.
I was kind of stuck for weeks on what to do about the bases for my Retribution, I really had no idea. However I drew some inspiration from the from a chap who is doing a victorian/steam punk short movie and had a really nice tile set in production. So it worked out well in the end.
I used modelling putty to make the bases as they are. I smoothed the putty onto the base and intentionally made sure that it looked un-even. I then started to scuplt the pavements on the modeling putty. Once the scuplt of the base was complete and let the putty set. I base coated all the bases with Umbral Umber (dark brown from the P3 paint range). Then a second coat with Grey Coat Grey (dark grey from P3 too) and worked my way up highlighting with Greay coat grey paint and frostbite. With a final watered down ink of the P3 brown ink.
I wanted to give them a scene where they are prowling the shadows & alleys of one of the Human Iron Kingdoms cities as they are about to "wack" another Warcaster and send him/her to "sleep with the fishes"...
I like the special ops theme in the fluff about mage hunter strike forces. Now I have done my 15pt themed Garryth list. I'm going to increase it by another 20pts now to 35pts. So more to paint now =P.
However I might just do another 15pt army as I would like to do another warcaster and add another 5pts somewhere down the line.
Thanks again for all the comments glad you like them. Really pleased with how they have turned out.
Regards
Sam

Really nice green. How you doing that with P3? Ordic Olive?
Samhordes
01-05-2010, 01:22 AM
Hey Keravin,
Correct Ordic Olive, highlighted with a mix of Ordic Olive and Wurm Green (light green p3 paint) building it up. I really like military green colours and the Retribution aren't into greeny fluffy stuff like traditional elves. I thought a military green would do them good and it turned out real good.

Samhordes
01-22-2010, 06:27 AM
Thanks Lofty =D.
I used modelling puty and thinned it out. then used the modelling knife to sculpt the flame. Then let it set and worked my may up from skorne red to sulfuric yellow (all P3 paints)
This one below is inspired by one of Chris Waltons sketches...

Hey thanks to you both for your kind words.
The cigar is a small metal rod, drilled a tiny hole on mouth of the model for the rod to fit in. The smoke is a tiny bot of cotton wool dipped all in super glue to make it hard so it keeps to its form.

Good stuff. However, i would suggest this. Do not use any direct light unless its pitch dark out. AND, try moving your camera out alittle maybe 30 cm approximately away from the mini would make the pictures look MUCH clearer.

Sam, where'd you get that stand your unpainted Retribution are on in post 21? Looks pretty useful, with the different radius holes at different depths.
Thought you might appreciate the whole army shot I got at the ETC, Mouthy B'Stard ;)
