Alright everyone, I've been out of the loop for some time now and one of the first things I need to hear news on is the new video game that was announced at GenCon'09. So if you have anything that would satiate my thirst for WM/H knowledge in that regard, please tell me.

And thanks for reading.:D

It's some sort of over the shoulder game where you control a warcaster control jacks. More people will give you better/correct information.

But mainly we are supposed to be creating a movement online to help get publishing for it or something like that...

I think the head guy from Baldur's Gate and/or Fallout is the head of this too. Which makes it an instant winner, even if it's about the inane details of a 'jacks private life. I'm gonna play this game 'till my keyboard and mouse grind to dust.

we've got nothing really beyond what they had at gencon. They don't have a publisher yet, so they've stopped the major work till they find one.

Yeah, really, once you read "a WM game was announced," you already know all there is to know. At this point we can't even go so far as to say "there's going to be a WM game," because many (if not most) video games don't survive the development process.

From what I saw of it, I really thought that it was pretty weak in video game terms. It looked....well, boring. The Iron Kingdoms universe is something that would work incredibly well with an RTS, but since Games Workshop has already released one based on their miniatures series, Privateer probably doesn't want to seem like they're jumping on the bandwagon. My personal hope would be for a game more like Dynasty Warriors, as it would work very well with the feel that a Warcaster is so incredibly much more powerful than the average soldier. Warjacks would provide excellent Mini-Bosses with enemy Warcasters being the final boss. As the game stands, I think it won't get off the ground simply because it's really a bad concept. Again, this is just from the videos I've seen. It could be much more outside of running around and smashing Bonejacks, but the videos also suggested it would only have 2 factions, which is a major disappointment for people who don't play Khador or Cygnar.

My two bits.

Bandwagon away! warmachine is a tactical game on the tabletop and i would imagine most of the players would want something that maintains the tactical heart of the game and expands upon it using the power of the computer.

at least i do. and that's all that matters to me >>

White Moon Dreams is developing the game. They have a forum for fan input. I suggest that anyone interested turn their attention regarding news on this matter there.

I think tactical RPGs are awesome and there should be more of them outside of handheld systems.

A cross between Final Fantasy Tactics/Fallout Tactics/X-Com/the Total War series with a bit of Magic Online thrown in.

Im looking for Warmachine VG to be the Next Star Wars battle front. Were you a a solider (trencher, long gunner, stormblade) then upgrade to a jack after blank kills and then upgrade to a caster after more kills.

The videos you saw weren't the ones of the in-development game. The video of a lone Khador warjack running around smashing bonejacks was a technology demo using Privateer IP, it wasn't a demo of the Whitemoon Dreams game.

What I want out of a Warmachine game is a well made RTS or even TBS making solid use out of the IP and all it's trademark weapons and special skills. I don't care how many people in the video game review industry make Warhammer/Warmachine comparisons.

The last thing I want is for Warmachine to be turned into a Dynasty Warriors/Battlefront game. Those "games" do not have the depth and intelligent gameplay that Warmachie deserves. Yes, the brutality is there, but where's the love for those who like to stretch their brains?

If anyone has played "The Last Remnant," that is the kind of system it should have.

You should check it out. I would give the game a 7.5-8.0 out of 10 rating but the fighting system would be perfect for the game. Especially as the game went along and the battles got bigger. It is simple but there is strategy and tactics for those who want to work out the mind.

I'm hoping they announce/ have something to show off at GDC this year. I'll be attending so I'll keep my eyes open and report back.

I like the TBS idea. I've always thought that the LotR TBS on the PSP would convert perfectly for WM/H. You could pick your faction/caster and then you're presented with a campaign map. Then you could pick your battle group based on the mission.

I personally would love if the WM game would play a bit like Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3. In my opinion that would have the best table-top to video game transition than most of these games I've seen. If you haven't played it, you should!

dont take this the wrong way but your lacking a lot of info and making assumptions with only partial knowledge.
the videos shown at gencon were tech demo's designed to chowcase possibilities for the newest gamebryo engine. Privateer licensed the WARMACHINE(tm) to them for the tech demo as far as the actual video game is concerned whitemoon dreams hasn't released a lot of info, they hav done a couple of high poly models of Striker ( or Caine, i forget offhand) and Sorcha. Right now whitemoon dreams is hunting for a publisher before goingmuch further.

perhaps you should check out the warmachine forum over on whitemoon dreams website for more info before you post so much misinformed negativity :)

Wait, there is video of the game? Where? I'd like to see!

Personally, I'd prefer an RTS. Screw the potential "bandwagon" implications, I think any video game adaptation of a tabletop miniatures strategy game would work best as some sort of RTS.

Plus...good RTS games are getting very few and far between.

I'm curious to see what they come up with. If they do a third-person style game (ala Brutal Legend?), I think their greatest challenge will be addressing focus.

I think it could work well as a turn based strategy game, rare as those are nowadays. Using focus is a big part of WM, and a turn-based strategy game lets you decide how to use it all without the pressures of an RTS.

If anyone has played Sacrifice, I think that style of RTS would lend to warmachine beautifully, where you play from the third-person perspective of a central character, and actively lead the army, cast spells, etc. In fact, Sacrifice is remarkibly similar to Hordes in most respects.

If PP made a game along the same lines of gameplay, I think I'd cry, it'd be the most beautiful thing ever.

If we are talking turn-based strategy, it would probably work best as a lower budget DLC game that you buy off of Live Arcade, PSN, Steam, etc. There is barely a market for RTS games these days, yet alone turn-based strategy.

Advance Wars was pretty successful, though it is true that the last incarnation came out something like two or three years ago.

For my money, I'd rather not see an RTS (I'm not fond of them) or even a turn-based strategy (I love them).

The thing is, it would be entirely possible to replicate the table-top game in a turn-based videogame format, but what would be the point? What could they do that the table-top doesn't do already, besides animate it and give it special effects?

I want to see the game offer an experience different from the minis game. Here are a few things that might accomplish this:

1. 3rd person arcadey battlefield simulation, like Dynasty Warriors. Run around as a warcaster with battlegroup through big inter-faction battles, trying to take key locations, eliminate key enemies, or face off versus enemy warcasters as boss fights.

2. A 4X campaign game along the lines of Master Of Orion, Master of Magic, or the new Heroes of Might & Magic or King's Bounty games. The gameplay is based on expanding your control into enemy lands, by deploying appropriate forces to conquer and guard enemy territory. Gameplay would be more map based, with combat mostly automated based on army makeup.

3. A birds-eye-view action RPG along the lines of the X-Men Legends games, where you play as a warcaster and battlegroup but jump into control of which ever you choose.

I would like to seem then use the total war engine. It's pretty much perfect. Detailed and amazing battle engine combined with awesome campaign map play.

A good RTS? Isn't that an oxymoron? :p

There have been a few good ones, but the gameplay feel of WM/H doesn't really lend itself to a RTS I think.
And in any case I have to say that is really the last thing I want to see from it. If I want to play WM/H I got a ton of models upstairs I can use. Or if you want to do it on the computer you got Vassal.

Hopefully they will do something a bit more creative with the IP to really take advantage of it. I think Whimper have some good ideas, I'd kind a like to see something a bit like Mechwarrior, just obviously with jacks instead of Mechs.

We just barely heard about this last weekend at our local game store and everyone freaked. Even the 40k players were stoked to try it out. Personally I plan to play the living hell out of it.

On a side note, my impression is that most RTS or TBS players I know are more than ready for something fresh. Starcraft 2 seems to have turned out to be something of a surprising let down for a lot of players because most of it is so similar to the original. Most of my co-workers have already cooled on it and gone back to Dawn of War and that's only after how many months of play?

I have no doubt that Warmachine will be the freshest and most compelling strategy game on the block when it comes out. I plan to play the hell out of it.
