Hi all. Since I started Warmachines about a month ago, I've constantly been drawn to the Assault Kommandos models. The problem is, I'm having a hard time finding a point-efficient way to use them in a list. I was wondering if any of you have any tactics/tricks advice on the unit?

I have read about using them as the target of Karchev's Eruption spell, but I'm not quite ready to trade in eSorscha.

How do you use them?

I use them to disappoint and underwhelm me each turn in multiple ways and in multiple roles.:D I also use them to keep my Kossites company.

Do a search, you'll see AK's have been pretty thoroughly discussed.

LOL

...but unfortunately true

AKs need a little support. Doesn't exist yet, but Strakhov is just round the corner.

I think AKs are great. I prefer their MkII abilities to double tap. With battle lust or transference they are amazing!

Strakhov better pump the ever lovin' crap of the Assault Kommandos, I -really- want to make a thematic army to go with him.

Other than using Sorscha1 to freeze the enemy and shoot the crap out of them, they are lacking in a unique role for our army, as much as I love the models. They need extra help from casters like Vlad1, Vlad2 and Sorscha1

I've found that they have a unique role in taking out specific enemy units. Those that use the fire or corrosion damage types in particular. They do an excellent job at taking out bile thralls, zealots and similar type units.

Their immunities make them a hard counter for a lot of Cryx and Menoth units. Additionally, if you use them to actually assault most light infantry you will be pleasantly surprised with just how handy they are. They also make great Gorman buddies, as he won't kill them with his bombs.

i was thinking of using Gorman w/ them. the pair seem meant for each other. strangle gas + black oil would be an effective -6 DEF -6 MAT in melee combat, and black oil would really help the AKs hit their strangle gas rolls. not to mention AKs wouldnt mind being hit w/ acid bombs.

one of the other units ive also been itching to field are the great bears. my problem w/ them however is that im not sure how to deliver them w/ DEF 13 ARM 16 and ensure their survivability. i was thinking the AKs could screen their advance, use A&B to strangle gas the enemy, then run around to let the great bears do their axe murderin while also providing a counter charge next turn.

but all the debuff gas would affect the great bears also, wouldnt it? i suppose i could use reach to charge but stay out of the gas cloud.

So sometimes their best ability in my experience is that easy things like fire and corrosion have no effect on them. That means they have to be dealt with by regular attacks, or at least lightning. More durable than winterguard they have always proven to be a better tarpit for me. For some reason people like to expend attacks on them which is fine, that means less attacks on my other models.

Of course with a little buffing they are potentially pretty nasty with 3 attacks one of which can be a debuff. They do want a little support but they are the only 10 man infantry unit in Khador besides the kossites without a UA so that is probably not surprising.

I like em and will likely paint my second unit regardless of what Strakov does.
