Hi!

I'm now modeling my first troll army.
I'm going to do paint as soon as possible.

BTW,How do you paint trolls?
What color are you using for them?
I use citadel paints. So,tell me in color name of citadel ones.

These are about background but I want to know them.
Is there any alternative skin color for trolls? They are all blue?
And Why warlocks are having whiter skin color?

Trolls born magically gifted are usually albino. My trollkin are green, with my troll beasts being varying colors. A gray slag, brown bouncer, green mauler. Whatever scheme you like, go nuts. :) I use all P3 paints at the moment, but I'll tell you Step #1. Buy the Citadel Wash set. Washes are your friend. Especially Badab Black and Devlan Mud. You can take a single coat of just about any metallic color, and with one black wash bring out the details and shade the edges. Devlan Mud does the same for just about anything else that you don't want too bright. I use it on all my leathers and most accessories.

When I did my trolls I stuck to a more or less traditional scheme.

I used trollblood base, which is a slightly pastel blue - not too dark. Dunno if there's a GW match.
Pretty much all the highlights involved lightening the trollblood base with a small amount of flesh tone, and adding progressively more mixing medium as i went. On something like a mauler, this made for a really nice transition to a pale fleshy colour around the belly. It also lightens up their faces so they come off more human than smurf.

Rotting flesh with layers of devlin mud wash make nice skin tones for trollbloods. I prefer browner fullbloods, and did my Mauler up like an American bullfrog.

My trolls are done in an inverted scheme- silver skin, blue armor, then I chose a bright magenta color for their quills and rock formations. GO NUTS- they're your models, after all!

I have several repeating schemes for my Trolls.

Pygs and my Axer: skin tone is equal parts blood red and scab red. Quils and body calcifications are ice blue with a tiny center highlight of enchanted blue.

Grim, Horthol, and Longriders: 2 parts Desert Yellow, 1 Part Sunburst Yellow. Same quill/calcifications as the ones above (blue).

Mauler, Doomshaper: Slightly lightened Lich Purple with Dark Angels Green calcifications, highlighted with Snot Green. Mauler's Quills are Blood Red with a deep badab black wash.

Earthborn Dire Troll: Mix of Dark Angels and Snot Green. Calcifications (all of his back, most of arms), are darkened Codex Grey with white and beastial brown highlights.

For the Swamp Troll look I'd probably start with Dark Angels Green and mix in Goblin Green for progressive layers of highlighting. Not sure if those colours are made by GW any more but hopefully it'll give you some idea.

Here is a troll painted a nice green and given a heavy black base varnish wash.

Using a little bit of a cut up sponge I apply the varnish like a wash, don't let it pool up anyplace and keep removing any excess where I don't want it with a dry bit of sponge. When you do it right you get a nice kind of shade in the cracks and dips and it will tint all the colors a bit darker so I paint them a bit lighter than I want them to end up.

This troll was done the same way, though with him I left the wash on longer in places and did not pull off as much exces. His robes are a good example of letting more stay. Sometimes you can't shade the way you wish so you have to let it dry a bit and then apply some in places so it will stay there. The process on a model this size takes about 15-20 min of attention to make sure it is how you want it, after that is starting to set up enough to not move anymore, though you can still remove it with some thinner. To get the dirty effect I just go back to the flat places and add a tiny bit as it is almost set up and it leaves a residue, much the way a wash will pool up but it is a bit flatter.

Now mind you none of these are showcase quality paint jobs but they get the models looking good enough for play fairly fast. Anyhow it is another option for how you can paint your trolls.

If you want to go for the classic Troll colour scheme with GWs colours, I'd use Hawk Turquoise. It's the closest you can get with Citadel paints. A wash of Badab black over that will make it look pretty good. :)

Whatever you do, don't paint them bright yellow. Nothing ruins everything like bright yellow. Look at Corvettes, sexy sexy car. Get one in bright yellow, crime that should be punishable by death.

The subtle irony!

It has no place on a gaming forum!
