Yes, I might be conscripting into the bold military of Khador *salutes*. My original fire in this game was for Cryx, but frankly they don't seem to be what I had anticipated. I wanted a dirty tricks army, one that is horribly nasty etc. There was a line that really hooked me. "Cryx are very dangerous, you could be playing, and thinking you're winning, right until the turn you lose". So, I jumped aboard thinking that sounds great fun. I played a multitude of casters and none of them seemed to be quite like that. The playstyle is more sucker punchy, hit them where they're weak etc, rather than the things i'd been expecting. And I have three armies from a different games system with that playstyle, so it's rather stale to be honest.

So, I've been looking at various armies. I very much like Legion, but I will wait for their rules to be finalised. For now, I'm quite liking Khador. I love the russian look, and theme. And am very fond of their infantry (especially the Winterguard, Iron Fangs, and Widowmakers). So I made a little list of starting models I'd like to obtain. And was wondering if you could give me a little bit as to how these models work on the board, and what I should add to them etc. Here's the plan;

The battlebox (Sorscha/eSorscha and Destroyer and Juggernaut)
10 Winter Guard
Winter Guard Officer and Standard
Three Rocketeers
Some of the weapon formations, probably one field gun and one mortar.
Widowmaker Unit
Kovnik Joe (big fan of the troop leading demagogue types)
A Wardog (what leader would go without a bodyguard!:D)

So, could you offer me a little advice as to what I should add to this list to expand it (it's basically an infantry unit, the starter set, and some widowmakers, who I love the look of). And how it would play on the tabletop.

Thanks a load in advance!

Edit: Wrong section of the forum -.-'

While it's here feel free to use those models to try and construct a list etc. I don't mind buying an extra unit or two. Just no Men-o-War (they look fat to me) or any of the barbarian types, not so big on them. Oh and not the behemoth, it looks like it's about to fall over. And it's bombard's look ridiculous. :P

The one thing I would advise is Beast-09, he's a pretty staple Khador jack, and just plain goes with Sorscha.
(Plus I find he's melee prowess beside eSorscha nicely matches the Winterguard threat.)

As for real advice though, I think you should buy smallish and build up.
i.e. don't buy in big until you're absolutely sure of what you want (I don't follow this advise myself, but will admit it is very sensible).

As it stands (with even a fraction of your planned purchases) you'll be able to play a very large variety of 15pt lists and some decent 25 (if not 35pt) lists.

For other ideas I highly suggest looking at the two main 35pt eSoscha WG lists already up, written by:

OldOneEye (http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?t=141); and

I too have a Cryx army, but must say that is this is still the idea you're going for Khador may not be the army for you...

Yes we've got some pretty awesome stuff we can do, but it isn't so "dirty" as it is downright mean. As someone's sig clearly states, "Khador has arc nodes shaped like axes, and the only thing they channel is pain."

For the most part our armies are pretty straightforward with a few small surprised we can throw in there to liven things up a bit.

That all said... enjoy!

Your purchase plan looks pretty solid. I would recommend starting with a 25 pt army and then adding to it after you have tried it out and made sure you enjoy it, then adding/tweaking it once you find things you don't like or weaknesses you wish to correct. Something like this would be a good start based on the models your interested in plus Beast 09:

Forward Kommander Sorscha -6
Beast-09 11
War dog 1
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) 4
Winter Guard Infantry (Leader and 9 Grunts) 6
3 Winter Guard Infantry Rocketeer 3
Winter Guard Infantry Officer & Standard 2
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich 2
Manhunter or other 2 pt model or remove the war dog and put in Eiryss or another 3 pt model such as a mortar.

Also consider picking up another warcaster or two, vlad and the butcher generally being the most popular for beginners. From this list there are a number of options you could add to hit 35 points. Some of the most popular options include:

Greylord Tenion which can lay down blizzard clouds to help protect your winter guard against range and block line of sight

Great Bears, a nice elite infantry unit

2 mortars for aoe support

Lady Aiyana & Master Holt for magical weapons and a dmg buff on targets

either version of Eiryss
