Me and my friends are starting up a campaign, starting with a 15pt battle. The campaign is against both Warmachine and Hordes armies, and my first fight is against the Legion. I know that I must face Typhon and Absylonia. Help me obtain victory, my Cygnaran brothers and sisters! Here is my proposed list. Do I have what I need to defeat Typhon? Is the caster choice wise? Is this army flexible enough to combat both hordes and warmachine armies?

Lt. Alister Caine (+6)
Charger (-4)
Charger (-4)
Charger (-4)
Defender (-9)

The basic plan is to shoot the bejeezus out of them while they advance, keeping two of the chargers next to caine while another charger along with the defender hold a slightly forward position to meet Typhon's charge. While Typhon is tied up with a Charger and the Defender, Caine and the remaining two Chargers circle around that melee to get shots on the warlock and other models.

Thank you for reading this!

I dont understand why you would run that list with pCaine? That list would do MUCH better with another caster.

nStryker would be better
Kraye would be better
n/eNemo would be better
n/eHaley would be better
Siege would be better

Actually almost every Cygnar warcaster would be better at running that list. The only thing Caine brings this list is deadeye, snipe and blur, and it doesnt really need those spells.

I love Caine, but he is not going to be well used here. pCaine is an infantry support caster. If you want to run an assassin, you need his epic version. When choosing a warcaster, you have to ask yourself what does he do for the list, and is there another caster that can do the same thing, only better.

Also, your army only has 6 attacks per round prior to caine spending focus. That will not get you very far. To fire all your shots you will need 5 focus, leaving you 1 lonely focus point for a boost somewhere. You need to diversify this army. 1 charger is great, 2 is pushing it, 3 is overkill.

First things first, you need a melee beatstick. The Defender is a second line melee unit. It can back up something, but it cannot hold the line. Then you need to formulate how you are going to win. What's the big plan. Sitting back and shooting is not a plan. Thats what you do at the firing range when drunk on saturday with your friends.

You need to say, "I will do the following to win." (eCaine get LOS, eStryker charge the target etc.) Once you have determined this, you have to determine HOW you are going to do what you plan on doing to win. "I will use pCaine to knock down whatever is blockign the enemy WC so I can send in my Ironclad and smack it on its head."

Sorry to be so critical and tear your list apart.

No, it's cool, I'm more than my list :)

I see what you're getting at about having a plan and executing it... but do you really think that the defender can't be a "beatstick"? It only differs from the Ironclad in minor ways...

In what ways to those other warcasters support the list that Caine does not?

a quick thought pCaine has 6 focus
-Chargers are very focus hungry jacks, to operate at maximum efficiency they require 3 focus a turn.
-Defenders will use 2 focus on shooting turns and 3 on melee turns to hopefully shut down enemy cortex P+S 16 isn't something to write home about imo

fully beefing up 1 charger and 1 defender leaves Caine with 1 focus if you have 0 upkeeps going not an Ideal situation. So keep that in mind.

Yeah, I'd drop at least one Charger for the B13 and run Siege instead. His feat turn is awesome.

Ah... to be specific, its jacks only, and I own pCaine, pStryker, pHaley, and pNemo.

I am considering changing to list to
pCaine OR pStryker
Charger (-4)
Charger (-4)
Lancer (-6)
Ironclad (-7)

Those 3 chargers were a bit much lol...

I'd go with either pNemo or pStryker personally Leaning to pNemo he does great things with jacks.
