Started working on this to add to my Khador village. I have 3 buildings (mostly) completed, they all resemble this one:

Here's a shot from a game:

And this is what I've got together on the new project:

I'm planning on putting a removable tin roof that covers both ticket/bunk booths and the platform, and enough minor details to keep me busy for the next couple of weeks. I'll try to post nightly shots when I get time to work on it.

Just out of curiosity, what are your rules for climbing the ladders?

Very nice work on the buildings - can't wait to see how the train turns out.

What are your plans for tracks and the train itself?

Looking good. Will definitely be following the progress on this one.

Anything O Scale would be good just go down to your local train hobby store and dress up some O Scale Tracks.

Just out of curiosity, what are your rules for climbing the ladders?

Standard movement, buildings are 4.5 inches tall. Path finder can run up. Small model bases only.

The real pita is that my 2 most freequent opponents both have Ghostly (Cryx and Circle) options, and we play it a straight line movement for them to get to their desired spot on top.

Good addition to the tabletop wargaming experience. Nicely done!

My usual Thursday night game had to cancel, so I had enough time to get the first ticket building partly assembled:

Your project is turning out so great but your foam isn't the pink or the blue stuff, what kind of foam are you using?

Looking like a fun board to play on. Look forward to the updates.

It's foam core. It's cool stuff, and pretty cheap too. You can get it at Walmart or any craft shop for under $2 a sheet (18x36"). It's 2 high gloss sheets of card stock with a layer of foam between them. Realy great stuff for buildings.

I sat around like a bum all day today and worked on this. Here it is so far, top off:

http://ringdev.com.web10.reliabledomainspace.com/images/TrainStation5.jpg

And top on:

http://ringdev.com.web10.reliabledomainspace.com/images/TrainStation6.jpg

The top will be held in place by a few magnets, for easy storage and removal. I've still got a bit of work left to go, but it's getting there.

A few more shots with a bit more work done:

Got the magnets in too. 4 small .3 lbs neodiwhatsits in the main cross beams, and 4 small metal pads on the bottom of the roof. I'm thinking about doing the same for the buildings, so that if I ever wanted to use them independently, I could.

I was looking at some trains, I'm thinking O-Scale might be a bit too big. O is 1:48 scale. So a 28mm tall model would effectively appear to be 4'6". S-Scale is 1:64. So a 28mm model should appear about 5'10". So S-Scale would probably fit the models best, but it isn't nearly as popular as O-Scale in the train hobby world, so finding a decent looking steam engine for cheap is going to be rough.

Over 250 rivets today. But on the bright side, I think I'm almost ready to start putting color on it.

I'm afraid the only steamers you will find are from Company B, which fit on S tracks; good news is they are not so expensive.
http://www.brigadegames.com/category/TVSIWV.html
They also have track to match, locos $55 each then you could go to Showcase line and buy some bogies and scratch the rollingstock.
S gauge but not S scale, they are 1/56 as they have been engineered for gaming. Otherwise S is usually for the serious and consequently all you will find are expensive rtrs for mad collectors and craftsman kits.
We often go for O or On30 anyway as it is easier to get ahold of. There are are O trains for gaming but too big and last I checked you may as well buy an operating On30 set for that price (they cost a lot, yes.)
Arii have repopped their 1/50 locos which could be made to fit S as they are nearly there, but very expensive too.
Otherwise there is only the train from Paperterrain. (Don't bother with the Vulture Gulch one- it's rubbish and doesn't even come in colour.)

Picked up an S-scale American Flyer off of EBay for $6. I had to lift it up a bit to get it level with the platform, but the scale is perfect. The cars are exactly the width of a large base and the passenger compartments are just about right for man-sized models.

Finally had an opportunity to pull the station out of the storage box for a game this weekend. Wound up with an objective marker right on the deck between the two ticket booths. Had a great little showdown over it. I really need to sink some time into finishing the paint and base, but it's already proved itself to be a very interactive piece of terrain.

I'm really digging interactive terrain. Multiple levels, bridges, cat-walks, etc... I've got a few more building ideas, and a full table idea, but I've got a bunch of projects to finish first.

i guess its a bit too late now but your steps are massive... scalled up each step would be 2-3 feet high... average step is in fact around 8 inches high... would be my only complaint tho, the rest looks good and well built.

That's actually the same issue I ran into after I got a train next to it and ran a game with it. The deck is too high IMO. We treat the open side of the platform as a cliff face, allowing for climbing up it at a movement penalty, but I think it's a bit too much of a penalty (it should emphasis taking the stairs, but not make it insanely hard to come up the front). Re-leveling it is going to be a royal pita though.

I might just chalk it up to lessons learned for the next project ;)

You can always just have the track infront of the platform be raised on a small incline making up for the height.

Having worked at a store for years doing similar projects I want to emphasize this to everyone. Best thing to do rather than fiddle eternally and frustrate yourself is to learn and move on. Nothing comes out perfect except the NEXT project. ;)
