I had 2 games at the club tonight between myself, who had read the rules, and one of the regulars who had not. I let him play my Cryx army while I took me new Legion of Everblight warpack. Our lists were:

eSkarre
2 x Slayers
Min Satyxis Raiders w/ Sea Witch

pLylyth
4 x Shredders
Carnivean

Map of each turn for game one and two can be found here (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z179/DocBender/Warmahordes-Demo-1.jpg).

Game 1

Setup: Legion won first turn. I set up in a simple formation with Lylyth behind the Carnivean in the centre with the Shredders flanking. Cryx set up with the Slayers loading one side, Skarre behind and the Satyxis slightly behind and to the side.

Legion Turn 1: I forced all my beasts to run and Lylyth followed behind.

Cryx Turn 1: Cryx ran the Slayers up, giving them 2 Focus points each (one of which was wasted on both of them) then popped Skarre up front to take a pot shot at the Carnivean with her handgun and cast Blood Rain. All prove to be barely out of range. My opponant later admitted to spacing out before he tucked the Satyxis behind Skarre and not running them forward as he'd intended.

Legion Turn 2: The two Shredders on the right charge, taking a few small chunks out of the Slayers. The two on the left simply move up. Lylyth pops out from behind the Carnivean and blows all her Fury fully boosting 2 attacks with Hellsinger on Skarre. Two good rolls later, Skarre is dead.

Conclusion: Can't blame my opponent here, we're both learning the rules. After the spells failed, he got distracted and forgot his Warcaster wasn't invincible. If Lylyth hadn't done the job, I'd have charged the Carnivean up to at least get a spray off. With a free win under my belt, I probably walked in a little overconfident in Game 2.

Game 2

Pre-write-up Comment: You will note that at this point, I knew nothing of Reaving, which would have made this a very different game and I am now kicking myself.

Setup: Having gone first last game, I handed first turn to my opponent for game 2. Setup was very similar in all other respects.

Cryx Turn 1: Learning lessions from Game one, he gave the Slayers both one focus and ran forward, Skarre following behind. The Satixis walked forward, following the same strategy of letting the tougher units take the flak while they waited to hit on the second wave.

Legion Turn 1: Understanding his plan, I ran the 2 Shredders on the left up to screen while the intention of the right Shredders was to threaten the Satyxis and/or support the Carnivean. I was starting to feel understaffed for the battle ahead. Looking back, I also forgot to force an animus which would have filled out the Fury points. In fact, in light of what happens next, I would have been better to pump animi and walked forward. Live and learn.

Cryx Turn 2: The Slayers charge and tear all my Shredders into giblets with mass attack spam. Skarre moves up behind and pops her feat, preventing me from targeting either Slayer or herself.

Legion Turn 2: Realizing I'm dead if the Carnivean can't earn his point value, I charge him up and spray the Satyxis Raiders, killing the Sea Witch. Unfortunately, he's out of range for melee attacks. Lylyth follows suicidally, without any Fury to cast a spell or a valid target to shoot at.

Cryx Turn 3: It takes a Slayer and the Satyxis Raiders to kill the Carnivean but they bring him down in short order. Skarre and the other Slayer bring Lylyth down to 1 wound.

Legion Turn 4: Nowhere to run, Lylyth takes a last potshot at Skarre and misses. I conceed at this point since she's in charge range of practically the enemy's entire army.

Conclusions: The big things I feel at the moment, which may or may not be overreactions, is that I'm an idiot for not using the animi more. I also totally missed the Reaving rule which was colossally stupid.

Overall Conclusions: Newbies are dumb! Long Live the Newbies!

Edit Ofterthought: I would also have been better off, probably, treating the Shredders like one unit rather than pairing them off, supporting them with Lylyth while the Carnivean forged ahead... might try that next time.
