View Full Version : Faction book PDFs?
I'd really love to get the Scyrah faction book - I'm not at all interested in playing them, but I dig the fluff and the artwork and I'd like to know what factions I do not play are capable of. Yes, I want to buy all faction books as they become available.
However, at 30? per book I probably won't buy any of the books. Even though I play Everblight, for 30? I could almost buy eThagrosh instead, so I'll probably stick to the final mk2 PDF.
So I thought - how about making the faction books available as a legal download, not for free of course, but at a reasonable price. For instance, if such a PDF faction book were to cost 15? I'd probably buy some or all of them.
Note that I don't find the books too expensive in the sense of "isn't worth what it costs". The books are great (well at least the Scyrah book is, but I trust the others will too), it's just that 30? are 30? and that's a lot of money! :(

Dream Pod 9 has a similar setup with their books as well you can buy the PDF and the hard copy. If you do the math it is actually pricier to print it off but for those who cant live without a complete set but arent really going to use them then it is handy.
It would be really awesome if PP did PDF's for the faction books, I'm currently in Saudi Arabia where the postal service is non existant, having something like this would help me keep up to date instead of waiting 6-8 months and have to buy everything in one go.
The only issue I can see would be Piracy (pun not intended), WM/H has already reached or even surpassed GW games in popularity and their 5th ed rulebook was pirated up the wazoo. Additionally it does hurt the LGS abit as each PDF sold takes away from the stores sales. With Dream Pod 9 their game has a smaller community so the chances of piracy are also lower, additionally they dont have that great a distribution network so sell directly to the consumer unlike PP which shows uber support for the LGS scene.
Still one can always hope!
Those are valid arguments. What I can reply to it is that both arguments don't seem to be that big factors: LGS's make way more money with the miniatures and books can be scanned. I don't know about PP books, but the GW army books are all rather easy to find online (or so I heard...).
I don't know any actual numbers, of course. Maybe PP could give it a try with one book and then see if it went well? That would be cool!
*bump*
I'm bringing this thread up again in the hope that someone in the know will read it. :)
I just bought the Cygnar faction book last Friday and think it's absolutely worth its money. So now I want the Retribution book even more, but can't afford it without buying less miniatures. Any plans on PDF sales?

Jason Soles has said previously that there is no plans to release the rules as PDF files. I greatly assume that this carries over to the faction books as well.

Awww. :(
Thank you for the link though, wasn't aware they had already addressed this!

Of yet, the only books that Privateer Press has released in pdf form have been for the RPG, and with one exception were only released after being out of print and they decided to start work on a new RPG using an in-house rules system. The exception was a short, optional adventure between two of the Witchblade Trilogy volumes.
