I noticed the last comment someone made about bullet coating (for those who don't know what it is, it's putting on gloss and then matte for strength purposes) in another topic. I have been using GW Purity Seal, and though I like the minor sheen it gives, one that does not overly dull the piece, I HATE the way metallics look. Is there a way to do bullet coating that will actually preserve the metallic effect of the paint if you do it in stages over the course of a couple days?

I use straight up Matte Medium. Semi-Gloss I think it is. I can't really walk at the moment so I can't get up and check. But my metallic guardsmen look fine under it.

I don't know about layering the ones you mentioned though.

You could always go back and brush on a gloss coat over your metals.
I personally don't do it, but I'm happy with appearance after Testor's Dullcoat.

Actually, I've done that a few times, but unfortunately, once the matte sealer has been applied, the gloss does nothing to really improve it. Eh, I guess it's a lost cause :(

you can also re-highlight the metallics after your dull-cote. Or even wait to paint them entirely until after you seal.

Another option is to get some bottles of other sheens of varnish and spot-apply them after your spray seal. Delta/Ceramacoat makes some brush on varnishes that work just fine, and you can get matte, satin, and gloss. You could spray your model, then touch up the metal areas with satin and it would probably look fine.
