Sanct?s Cryx (eGaspy) vs. Cygnar (pNemo) 35 Points.
A pick-up game between two Warmachine newbies.
This will be my third game
If there are any rules issue to address, please let me know, but don?t bash us
Cryx List 35/35:
Min Bane Knights
So yea, infantry heavy with only 2 bone jacks. Not very friendly vs. pNemo?s feat. In addition a crap load of solos.
Cygnar List 34/35:
Light Jacks galore, with a side of lightning and lighting immunity.
Terrain: 2 buildings, 2 shallow water, 3 hills, and 2 Forests.
Scenario: Killing Field.
The Objective Markers are my Soulhunters. :-(
We roll off for deployment and my opponent wins and picks his side.
Nemo, Squire, and Sentinel hang back.
Stormblades up front with their BFF Stormclad.
Lancer on my left flank and the charger on the right flank of the mass of Stormblades.
Hunter Advance deploys later on my quiet right flank.
Far left is the Machine Wraith, then the Warwitch Siren(WWS) and a Bone?Slug?.
Bane Knights and Tart in center left. Gorgers and Gerlick form a wall. eGaspy and the Bokur are behind the wall. The withershadow (WSC) are next to eGaspy and Wrathe is next to the WSC.
The last Slug is on the far right flank.
We roll off for first turn and my opponent gets it and takes it.
Cygnar Turn 1
1 Focus on Charger, Lancer, Hunter.
Nemo puts Electrify on the Stormclad and casts Deflection. Nemo, Squire, Sentinel move up a bit.
Hunter stands on the right objective.
Charger peels right.
Lancer peels left.
StormBuddies move full forward.
Cryx Turn 1
I allocate nothing to my Slugs. The right slug for whatever stupid reason I had in my head, just advanced 3.5? into the forest. I guess I wanted it ?in reserve?, but it should have taken a Focus point and ran to hopefully contest that right objective cause the Hunter is on it already.
The Warwitch Siren moves up a bit and power boosts the left Slug. That Slug makes a 14? beeline to the middle mass of Stormblades (and baiting the Stormclad).
The Machine Wraith powers down the left side.
Gorgers run 7-8? only and spread the screen a bit, Gerlick following. Bokur moves to be on the left side of the screen.
Wrathe moves up a bit to catch all the undead in his command and uses deathride, then moves a bit more through the shallow water.
Tart shuffles forward just a little, while the bane knights move to be behind the hill with 2 of them sort of ahead to bait some shots/attacks at them.
WSC moves up and puppet strings Gaspy.<--- I forget I did this like 3 seconds later.
Gaspy moves up and arcs DeathKnell at the Marshall of the Stormblades? I forget to look at the range and thought it was 10,?but it?s 8. So it misses and scatters a bit away and toward me only clipping one member. I forget I have puppet strings and I use my 1 focus to boost the damage and that one guy dies. 5 Focus for 1 kill /golfclap.
He then uses last 2 Focus to put a mist on top of the Slug and one of the Bane Knights.
Lesson Learned: Committing Early at such out of range ranges is not good.

Cygnar Turn 2
Nemo puts 3 focus on the Charger and 1 on the Hunter. Later he pulls a focus off of the Squire.
Charger moves along the shallow water and takes a shot at a Gorger on the side of the wall… THE WEAK POINT!! First shot downs the Gorger only to tough it off. But, as the card says, the second shot gets the Gorger and he stays down.
The hunter stays put and takes a shot at Gerlick and Gerlick takes it the face, only to regenerate it as he makes his tough check (phew!).
The lancer shuffles forward. The stormblades shuffle forward not wanting to be charged.
The Stormclad activates with one focus from close by Stormblades. It charges the Slug/BaneKnight upfront, in a small mix up I thought he was going for the Slug when he was going for the Bane Knight and rolled stuff for the Def of the Slug, we resolve it as the clad charging the Slug.
So, boost to hit(jack marshal) with the sword and does 13 damage to the Slug. The Electro-leap then kills the Bane Knight next to it. It then uses open fist, boost to hit and rolls enough to just get 7 points of damage wrecking the Slug.
Squire, Sentinel, Nemo move up a bit. Nemo casts Chainlighting onto the Bane Knight on the hill and hits on boxcars. Kills the first target, arcs 3 times and only manages to kill one other.
Hunter is on one objective.
One Stormblade is on the center objective.
Cygnar gain 2 points.
Cryx Turn 2
eGaspy keeps his focus. If forget to do my Bane Knight Vengeance Moves…frak.
The Machine Wraith runs into melee range of the lancer.
Gorgers Charge various targets but most are out of range, but they really needed to just get out of the way. Only one Gorger made it into combat and it charged the Stormclad. It hit and I think didn’t do any damage, anyway he gets fried by the upkeep which I knew he would, but I didn’t realize it would expire...YAY! As my opponent mentions, the Gorger took one for the team.
WSC move forward; puppet strings on Tart and Admonia tries to cancel the upkeep on the Stormclad but is an inch short.
Wrath Shuffles a bit and deathrides the undead, shuffles some more through waters. CURSES, I should have done this first and Admonia could have been in range to remove the upkeep on the Stormclad.
Well…feeling a bit more confident, Tart charges the Stormclad, Curses it, hits and does enough damage to clear out 2 columns enough to remove the buckler. If forget if I use puppet strings.
One Bane knight tries to charge the lancer but is out of range (a theme really of my charges) and the remaining two charge the Stormclad…and with the lack of buckler, Tart’s Dark Shroud, and the Curse, they wreck the Stormclad.
Gerlick runs to take shelter in the Wreck of the first Slug.
Bokur tries to slam a Gorger into a Stormblade but is crazy out of range to do it.
Gaspy moves left to be in front of the WSC and throws up 3 clouds blocking LoS to him and the WSC and camps 1 Focus. Soul Reaper was not in range and I just didn’t use it the rest of the game.
I proceed to yell up at the sky, “I WANT SOULS” and my opponent had the rocks to taunt me “Come and get them.”
The last slug advances another 3.5 forward…not gonna do anything all game frankly.
The WWS runs to sit on the left objective.
Cryx gains 1 point.
Lessons Learned: Remember Vengeance, sacrifice is a good things sometimes, and order of operations is important.

Cygnar Turn 3
Nemo puts 3 focus on the Charger and 1 on the Hunter, he’ll leach one later from squire.
Charger fully shoots a Gorger, but he toughs it off. Then shoots Bokur to take off 4 boxes. The hunter finishes Bokur off.
Lancer moves away from the Machine Wraith and takes a freestrike. I manage to inflict one point of damage for the lulz.
Nemo/Squire moves up, Ball Lighting the Machine Wraith but missed, then Chain Lighting on the left flank gorger from the Lancer…he misses with the Squires re-roll…very tough, Foc 7 vs. Def 12 +2 for concealment.
The Sentinel moves to be to the side of Nemo and Chain guns the gorgers in front of his Stormblades and they tough off all the shots and he used the Jack Marshal boost somewhere.
Stormblades do the assult order.
2 of them shoot and CMA the machine wraith, all missing. I’m really liking the 1 pointness of the Machine Wraith :D
One shoots and kills the forward Bane Knight.
The last 4 Stormblades were required to put down the Gorgers after some hot tough rolls all game up until now.
Hunter and Stormblade are still on their two objectives.
Cygnar have 4 Scenario Points at this point.
Cryx Turn 3
Gaspy Keeps all focus. I remember the Vengeance move and move him to hit the Stormblade on top of the center objective and he misses.
The single Bane Knight continues to miss during his activation, which means Tartarus has that guy in his way.
Tart charges the annoying jerk (curse for good measure) and *** pwns him… I forget Death Toll here…
Gorgers run to get back into command range and put one of them in melee range of the charger.
Wretch moves 3.5 out of the forest to fail at range and not be able to shoot the Hunter.
WSC moves to puppet string Slaughterborne and then Double Dark Fire on the Stormblade that killed a Bane Knight. They kill him.
Slaughterborne Charges the grouped up Stormblades and kills one, then moves, then the second, then moves, and then the third, without the need for the re-roll.
Feat lane opened.
Wrathe Deathrides and shuffles to the left.
Gaspy moves into LoS to nemo.
Casts Excarnate. Hits on 2D6. Rolls 11 on damage and does 10 damage to Nemo.
I had the choice to
A. Throw up a cloud elsewhere and teleport away.
B. Boosted to hit Excarnate to seal the deal.
I chose B and threw down 3 dice to…miss by 1.
Ok… I’ve got my pants down, I have to feat to try and end it.
I bring back 5 Bane Knights to the front…and really that’s all that mattered. The gorgers are in the back of him for kicks.
First Bane Knight charges and miss.
Second Bane Knight hits and rolls 6,5,4,3 on the damage roll.
Basically, I could have fluffed the first Excarnate and the Bane Knight would have still killed Nemo in one swipe….squishy cast is squishy.
pNemo is down, game ends by Caster Kill.

Cryx Unit Rundown:
Same old, same old as any of you vets would prob. describe him.
-Soul Reaper-didn’t use…more like forgot about it.
-Hellbound-didn’t use it. Hindsight is 20/20 so I didn’t ‘need’ it. But next time, hellbound would have been better than the DeathKnell, then I can use the WSC’s free upkeep, dur.
-Parasite-well this game it wasn’t on a need basis. I was thinking of putting it on the Stormclad, but at the same turn I wanted/needed the 3 clouds to make sure nothing shot at Gaspy.
-Teleport-wanted to use it at a point.
-Mist-Defensively nice, but I was also thinking of putting them closer to the enemy. I did not because of the flanking Charger and Hunter.
-Excarnate-His direct damage spell, not much else. I have to admit that damage roll was lucky. In addition this would have been prob. a better use of focus than DeathKnell turn 1.
-Death Knell-Of the two times I used it, it’s been focus-hog-for-meh or Witchhunter-proc. I’m using it a poor times honestly. But I really want to get the Soulreaper/DeathKnell action someday.
-Feat-it’s a game ender and is what it did. Gorgers are less than ideal to bring back, but oh well, yea, my Feat was a bit early when I can only bring back 8 models and none of them are Gerlick or the Sauce. I also think this means I can play just a tiny bit more offensively.
I used them poorly honestly. They didn’t have to commit so early or go through terrain.
Very hot tough rolls early on. They sucked up fire power, took a casualty to get an upkeep off the Stormclad. They didn’t show off their combat prowess though… And while the screen is why they are there, it just fell apart after turn…2.
No Knock Down, yes please. Making that tough roll was godly good for me. My first chain with him is 3 models and they were amazingly important to get LoS and a lane onto Nemo.
I like them. :D It is correct in saying they are not a front-liner. They dropped pretty quickly when hit. Though their reach and ghostly float my boat.
Netting 2/3 of a Stormclad, dying at a respectable rate to fuel the feat, and getting the caster kill, they are all-stars….as expected in a eGaspy list :D
I kept him a little back. Curse and be supported. I think that addresses the main reason why the Stormclad was killed and Nemo being assassinated. The Stormclad was not really supported and Nemo was too close.
I didn’t use Thresher nor Death Toll. DarkShroud is great as intended on tough stuff. In addition his durability is upped by my opponent not having anything that ignored Stealth (electro-leaps aside).
It’s sad to not run Soulhunters with him, but it’s great not to feel like I have to throw him fully forward to follow the Soulhunters. He just supported a good portion of the army in getting extra movement.
A total of 3” for eGaspy, the Bane Knights, Tart, and the Withershadow Combine.
I’ve only had less than a handful of games with them. They are a great toolbox, but I’m just not getting too much out of them, but I want to.
I had no upkeeps. Puppet Strings were wasted most of the time. Dark Fire kind a short ranged so is the removal of upkeeps, putting the WSC closer and in danger. I prob. just need to tinker around with them more…as they are pretty price at 5 points.
Not much was done really. Stealth got her not shot at, power booster for a one turn run to the Slugs’ death, and sitting on an objective ‘just in case’. I was really tempted to just run in there and Venom stuff, but it was not something I acted on.
Same armor as the Stormclad weirdly enough and both of the heavy hitters were down in less than 3 hits.
Bokur wasn’t used very well and my opponent didn’t have too many ranged options. In addition I had blocked my charge lane for the Bokur onto the Stormclad (and was hesitant due to Electricy).
I added him in cause I don’t ‘just’ want to rely on the clouds and Gorger wall for defense on Gaspy…and he’s like a light jack in terms of offensive power. (not a jack fan weirdly enough)
Very nifty for one point. He’s larger than I thought he would be.
I think I will continue just running disruption with it as points filler…I’m hoping to get to more squishy support solos :D
Stormclad: needs more support. Barreled into the Bane Knight/Arcnode and got counter attacked bad on my terms.
Nemo: keep him back. Admittedly he forgot about Arcane Accumulator…but more importantly, he didn’t have Junior or Arlan Strangeways to get more power tokens to fling more chainlightings and such. 7 Foc, Arlan, Jr, and leach off of Squire is 10 focus.
Two boosted to hit Chain Lightnings, or 2 Chain Lighting and 2 foc for jacks.
I think it was my opponents’ first or second time using him (my second time using eGaspy). In addition, he’s using the models he had with him.
Charger and Hunter were great on the flanks. They were an issue I just didn’t deal with because they were quite far and had a great position to plink away. That and the storm blade in the middle, my opponent was close to getting to Scenario victory.
My not taking too many jacks kinda killed the mood about his feat (and ultimately it wasn’t used because one Arc was *** Pwned and the other was tripping though the forest.
In addition, the lack of a second heavy jack was kinda weird (if that’s the word to use). Though that many light jacks were daunting at first.
That last point (though he may not have the model) could have been Reinholdt, a Storm Gunner WA for the Stormblades, or a Stormsmith.
