Hi all

These are some of my Khador-colored mercs. I started this force with the intention of painting up some Khador battlegroups as well, so I could switch out casters & jacks, but keep my merc solos & infantry the same.

The Khador part of it never panned out, but I liked the color scheme a lot, and decided to stick with it.

That mangler is really fantastic. Nice work with the chain.

Thanks! The Mangler's chain is a conversion done by my buddy Jon (Steel_wings on the forum). I think it looks a lot better than the original chain. More sense of weight to the spiked-ball end.

It's weird to see the Freebooter in high-contrast red like that... but friggin' stunning!

nice red! I like the grunge and dirt and wethareing you've got going on also.

Also: Awesome freebooter! Red so totally makes it go faster :D

Thanks a lot. :)

Next up will be a red Gorman di Wulfe (a little more muted, and with a dingy green cloak), and some Rhulic bunnies. Probably followed by Nyss Hunters, since they show up in virtually every list I make.

Hard to go wrong with red when it comes to minis.

Hate to be critical, but you really should finish the bases. It's a shame that such a great paint job doesn't at least have a finished base. What you did with the Mangler is great. Just sand and paint. Painting the plastic and not covering the slits detracts overall.

Love the paint scheme though!

Fiona looks pretty sweet! Goes very well with the rest of your force.

Sucks you live a few hours away now, I was hoping to throw down against you one last time before you left.

Yeah, the bases are unfinished. I hate doing them one at a time, so I wait until I have like 10-15 models painted to completion, then I do the bases assembly-line style, all in one go.

I'm going to be plugging the gaps with putty, then flocking the bases & adding little clusters of standing brush/cat-tail type foliage. The way they're painted now is more or less just a place-holder, so at least they're not primer-white with paint splashes from doing the models' feet.

@Gramut; yeah, me too. But there's always the convention(s) coming up, and the store down here does tournaments on a regular basis, apparently, so maybe you & Jon'll get the urge to do a little competitive play and make the drive down.

Sounds good to me. Guess I shoulda figured that. No way someone spent so much time doing such a great job on the paint to skimp on something as easy as basic bases.

Good work, sir!

The Mangler chain is my favorite thing you did.

For the brassy metals (Fiona's warcaster furnace, really), what colors did you use? Speaking of Fiona, I love the red of the tines on Venom. Awesome red and blending!

For the gold furnace & armor, I used the following:
-Base with watered-down Tin Bitz
-Drybrush with Chainmail
-Heavy wash with Yellow Ink & then Flesh Wash (to get a brown-yellow tint back in)
-Drybrush with Shining Gold
-Light wash with Badab Black to re-define shadows
-Final touch-up with Shining Gold on edges

I wanted Fiona to have a touch of that classic, cheesy "red-villain" look that a lot of GW models had back in the late 80s-early 90s. When the more red & black a model was painted with, the more evil it was.

Thank you.

I used GW's Blood Red. That's actually the only red I used. I darkened it way down with black, then brought it back up in layers to pure Blood Red. Then washed the models with black, and finally cleaned up the red with one last shot of Blood Red.
