Well we got the new Doomie, and I had to take him out for a spin last night. I was only able to play one game and it was against Mordikar. Mordikar was a bad matchup for Doomie with Lamentation always up(I did spend the 6 fury to get rid of it, which worked, but man it messed with a couple of my turns having to spend 2 fury to upkeep Fortune).

So I lost a fairly close game, and had some chances to get somethings done, but overall I felt rusty with a caster that squishy, and just was not firing on all cylinders tactically.

Today though, I Play two quick games against Cryx, against a player who wanted to use pAsphyxious. After my list last night that was a little off, and was doing too many different things, I changed it to this list.

Game one, I just run my stuff up, put Viel of mists on the FennBlades, run mulg also to the Fennblade line, into some woods with the Axers animus, move the axer kinda near Mulg, run everything else up behind the Fennblades.

His turn 1, he moves up his stuff, and is getting ready to begin the attrition war, with Mech Thralls set to tarpit, and Tartarus, and the Banethralls ready to counter punch. Gaspy uses his arc nodes to put out some Breath of Corruptions, and moves in behind the Mech thralls.

My turn 2 I put the axer animus+ Fortune on Mulg, move up and pop my feat. Move the KSB up, pop a 10" bubble for +1str. Then I charge with Mulg, and kill a mech thrall, Goad+ Overtake for 3" then killed another model with my fist which allowed me to overtake to get within reach of Gaspy, and then bought a bunch of re rollable attacks on Gaspy, knocking him since he was not camping focus. Neat but he clearly just didnt know what Mulg did, and I just wanted to see if I could pull it off, and if it was viable, which it was. So I offer to set up again, and we agree to play another.

Game 2

This one, we setup in similar fashion for the attrition trade, but hes more careful with his caster. So he moves the Leviathan up, and shoots a parasited Mulg for like 12 damage, and Mulg poops out 2 whelps.

On my turn I use Mulg with Fortune, to charge the Mech thralls in front of the leviathan, Goad up to it, and kill it. I killed and arc node with Fennblades, several Banethralls, and we start mixing it up. I pop my feat.

His turn he gives a Reaper 3 focus, and uses the remaining Banethralls to kill the fennblades engaging it, which frees it up to take a shot at Hoarluk. He takes a boosted shot, and hits hoarluk, and boosts the gun damage roll(an error given the sustained attacks were going to be straight dice but hindsight is 20/20). I take like 7 damage. Then I get pulled to the thing. The Reaper takes the 2D6 damage and combined with the little damage the Fennblades had done the turn prior, it loses the gun arm(yay a die roll too late!).

The Reaper gets the free attack for straight damage and does like 3 with a poor roll.

Then he buys an attack, rolls the 7 damage required to force Hoarluk to make a tough check which I pass!

Gaspy casts scything touch on Mech Thralls, pops his feat to bowl for dollars to get Doomie to take one more tough check, which fails. The Mechthralls do some damage to Mulg pooping out more whelps.

My, my Scattergunners free up Mulg(yay I finally get the combo to work!) and Mulg has to Overtake 2 times to get to Gaspy who is ARM23 with all his focus. I buy the first attack and boost with re-rolls. I hit, and boost damage and do 11 damage with Dice -3(I got lucky) and then I buy another attack, and boost the to hit roll, hit, and do like 4 damage, and then I get the free attack which misses but I re roll a hit, and do 4 more damage.

I messed up with ONE model which allowed a legit attempt on Hoarluk. I had a spare Fennblade, I could have run in front of Hoarluk to prevent the reaper shot I knew was coming but I spaced it and just ran him into melee with things and made no attacks. I could have prevented the attack, so that was on me.

Anyways I am liking Doomie more and more. Fortune coming back is just sweet, and I am really trying to get the Charge of the Trolls, + Fortuned Scattergunners to work, and it is nice. Really I just have a few things going on with the list. The Fennblades are no slouches, then the Scattergunners, and finally Mulg(oh yeah and my Animi monkey Axer).

My opponent has not used Gaspy in MKII yet, and was not practiced of late. I think if we keep playing more games they get a lot tougher.

Having said that, I like what I see. Purification, and Fortune are just good. Stranglehold is nice, the new Feat is REALLY nice. I like him! :)

Am I reading that correctly? Did you continue the game even after Doomshaper failed a Tough roll?

Even if so, Mulg shouldn't have been able to force in the following round, right?

I think what he meant on the second one was that his opponent tried to force another tough roll but failed to damage Doomy.

Could be wrong, but that how I read it.

I was watching the game.
What was meant to be said was that Gaspy tried to forced another tough roll with his POW 5 blast dmg, from his feat.
Which did not do any damage as he would have needed to roll 11+ on 2D6.

I don't understand why you would think Mulg wouldn't be able to force in the following round.

That read to me as if Gaspy popped his feat to get Doomie to take one more tough check, which failed. The Tough check failed. It's not super clear. Tough check fails, Doomshaper is dead. Warlock's dead, beast can't force, if I recall (not to mention that the game should be over, anyway).

Thus the confusion. Can we move on?

One point is always perfect for gobbers :) I'd hesitate to play either Doomie without them and Calandra as well.

yeah I think I played a point short, but lets not get into that.

Also to clear up any confusion, I was trying to say that the attempt to force an extra tough check failed(unboostable POW5 vs ARM17).

I played another game with Boomie v Hexeris and did well, but it was againts Skorne so it was like picking on a cripple.
