I may have been a bad, bad man and cheating for awhile in MMII.
I noticed that Enliven and Ancillary Attack are listed under the Mahic Ability of the Vassal. That makes them spells, right? And thus since the Avatar has Spell Ward, a Vassal cannot use those on him. Is that correct?

Avatar's Sacred Ward protects it from enemy magic attacks. Friendly magic buffs are fine.

You are a bad bad man but not because you have been cheating. The Avatar cannot be targeted by enemy spells so you can still use defensive buffs on it.
Basically it is one of the combos that lead to your opponents wanting to sockjack you.

Ah, Spell Ward does not equal Sacred Ward. Gotcha.
I guess I need to take more time to thumb through the 266 pages of card printouts before I panic.

Also remember to always bring the Covenant. :P
Seriously, this just may be one of the toughest nuts in mk II to crack.

I am guessing to keep the Avatar from being knocked down so he will always be able to get his Enliven move? Yeah, that seems to be pretty tough to deal with. Glad it isn't my problem :)

Knocked down AND stationary, yes. It's insane really. If you run a brick and make sure you always have a safe spot to retreat to, your avatar will survive a lot and dish out those mat 10 p+s 21 all over the place. Mine died only once and that was because I miscalculated on the incubi move and free strikes.

Have you encounter the Scorn Agonizer. It is similarly annoying.

It is quite annoying and is a pretty solid counter to jack heavy Protectorate. However its effect against the Avatar is negated since the Avatar cannot be allocated focus.
I'm having to learn how to deal with the lack of focus allocation from that thing, in mk1 it was not much of an issue thanks to Brand from Reznik but unfortunately that spell is gone .
