5 rounds Swiss. Final ranking decided in order of number of wins, strength of schedule, then control points, as steamroller format.
I'm good to play. Don't think I'll have enough reliable time available to help run it though. For 32 players, I'm thinking you guys will want some web-form help vs. doing everything by email - I could get that up and running at least.

Apologies for the delay. Looks like it'll be Mutton and I running the event. Please pm me your email address and I'll contact you along with google doc link. Or if you already have my email address, send me the lists.
You and Mutton will still play right? I personally don't care if you're doing the pairings and playing in the event. It'll be a much better event with the two of you in it.

We'll still be playing, and thanks for the patience.
Currently we need the contact info of a few more players, we have 12 out of 15 signed up so far. (need Gunmage, Sam and Alex). Everyone else should have got a link to the document with the list of participants.
For those who haven't done so, please email me the 2 lists. Once all the lists are available I'll add them to the document and start the event.

01-17-2011, 06:01 AM
Same for me, I wouldn't go Cygnar if I knew the breakdown beforehand.. but that decision was made before lists were submitted for fairness so it stays.
Maybe next time we can post the faction breakdown before lists and pairings are set in stone to try to widen the variety.
Razhem
01-17-2011, 08:45 AM
Wow, no menoth nor skorne which the last one was full of. At least I get the pride of being the only crazy bastard going minions! Though seeing the faction breakdown, it's going to be hellish, tricksy factions all over the place.
Idea for the future could be to submit 2 factions worth of lists (2 lists for each faction) if you are game to run both - with the understanding that you'll end up playing whichever of the set is least represented.
Vassal tourney has the benefit of everyone having every army out in their car.

im lovin moz's lists just because they are so different!
the ebutch list seems... random...
lotta eskarres.
I think its funny how sheens lists are the exact same except for the caster, ive known some people to do this and its actually pretty effective unless you face hard faction counters.
all the legion lists are different too which is great
GunMageinTraining
01-18-2011, 09:01 AM
Technically, Sheen's lists are illegal. Your only supposed to have one variation of a caster in either list.
No Nemo 1 and Nemo 2 lists, or better yet, pDenny and eDenny... but, I'm not running it.
whats82
01-18-2011, 09:22 AM
If we're using the varient of 2 character (x list = x character) then that would apply, though personally I don't really see much logical reason for that to exist since we're not doing some fluff campaign where one person can not be in 2 locations at once, in which case all 'FA:C' models would not be duplicable in 2 lists.
GunMageinTraining
01-18-2011, 09:31 AM
*shrug* every tourney I've been too has been quite clear on the matter. I've never seen a 2 list tourney that allowed both lists to have the same caster, even if it was different variants. Maybe it was just how they always ended up being run around here...
Not a big deal to me or anything though.
Razhem

Seems like a pretty backwards ruling to me, they are mechanically different and have no inherent power boost for going with that, so not really seeing why anybody would even care.

My match vs mladizmaj has been done. I got the win in the end, but after attrition hell. He went Saeryn, I went Barnabas. To put it bluntly, **** luck dominated the first big part of the game with a few sparks of madness on both sides opf the board, but it was a hell of a lot more crippling for him since he missed all his initial thrust attacks and rolled crap damage when it mattered (Wrastler survived like 2 extra turns out of sheer stupid luck), on my counterattack similar hijink ensued where both angels came out alive.
Basically, we both got dragged into an attrition war since my assassination run was cut short due to a bad initial first strike and his got the same treatment pretty much. It just happened to be that I was better prepared for attrition and didn't depend on good luck on key rolls as much as him that ended up giving me the match. After a long confrontation and with only Saeryn, a spell martyr and a half dead shreder alive, he conceded
Mladizmaj was an amazing opponent and a plain dear to play against while at the same time being vary challenging and sharp. The simple detail of casting banishing ward on herself already sent the ranged assassination vector to hell. I'd like to believe I played up to par, though in the last turn my luck started to change and I started rolling crazy dice. Anyway, thanks for the great long and intense mate and godspeed in the rest of the tourny.

Too bad, just missed out on this. Was just talking to the wife about finding Warmachine for Vassal...used to play 40k on there all the time until I got sick of rules monkeys I couldn't just threaten to kick to shut up.
Is there a reasonably active vassal community for this?

I'd dare say quite active. You can find the module here http://z7.invisionfree.com/vassalwmh/index.php?showforum=2

Zerkova (me) vs Vayl (Glaive).
Zerkovas anti magic and god-like doom reaver tough rolls put vayl on the back foot. But one stupid little kayazy gave her a dark sentinel move that allowed a scythean to walk up to zerkova and eat her on its last attack.
Awesome game Glaive, well done :)

Definitely will be more events in the future. Hopefully with some helps later on so I don't have to run every one of them.

Well, had my second match vs Glaive. He used Vayl, I went Barnabas again. He pretty much controlled the whole tempo of the match since I lost the trhullg to unexpected movement shenanigans with the ravagore (huge moral hit, I was counting on consumption to make hexblades life hell) and the next turn I took 7 Damage on barnabas from a Rampager and was set on fire and I was also so afraid to get hoarfrosted with the gatormen that I didn't move very aggressively so I could hug cover. Seeing how things were panning out, I pretty much said screw it at that point, feated and proceeded to eat most of his hexblades except 2 (bayal was a casualty too) and nuke the ravagore while hoping the incoming scythean onslaught didn't utterly nuke me. I basically got lucky with him deciding on going for the warlock kill, but without being able to stack incite, nor chiller around and some very yucky rolls, I managed to survive along with my beasts (spitter and snapper were half dead at that stage) and not losing any more posse to it. Next turn I pretty much pilled the pressure, took down the scythean and crippled the seraph while keeping barnabas with Iron flesh and in a swamp pit and 3 fury to stop the serpah from just sniping me out or making it hellish for it to take me down in melee.
So yeah, attrition won the match for me again and getting lucky in the most critical moment of the most critical turn, had I lost 2 gators and the spitter there, chances are I would have had to roll like a demon to get the grove going. Glaive was a great opponent and took the sudden shift in very good form. He certainly has been getting leaps and bounds better every time I play him.

Btw, Rikash is playing a disgusting eAsphyxious list and Rikash plays it well. He's got a little Excarnate trick with Bile Thralls that's sick. It's basically Mk. I Protectorate Cleanser Bombs. It's stupidly powerful and gross.
I can usually compare a list I see to some of my pre-builts and know how I would take it on. eAsphyx and that list... ugh. I hate that frackin' caster. Okay, I hate a lot of Cryx casters. And their infantry. Now I'm just ranting... :)
Been fun watching your games, boys.

Just posting a quick thank you to the organizers, these tournaments are an absolute blast and the effort is well appreciated.
Also a thanks to JamieP and Razhem for some outstanding games. Win or lose these have been some of the most challenging and thought provoking matches I've played in and are exactly what I was hoping to find in a tournament like this.

Yes, yes it is. I feel dirty running Cryx sometimes, but figure that comes with the territory. That was a mean match-up for Moz and he played his game well. Cryx played the attrition game until feat feat turn. Win by concession (we mutually agreed rolling dice wasn't necessary when it's Parasited, Cursed, Dark Shrouded Darius who's about to get Blinded and beset by a horde of angry incorporeal undead). No control points for either of us.

Well Rikash, as winner that's your job to go update the master file.
Glad to hear everyone's having a good time. I'm thinking of asking more people to record their games and we can share it online, it'd be a good way to look back and see if things could have played out differently, for education and lols.

Zerkova (me) vs Terminus (Ressurection)
Zerkova got first turn and ran towards the middle, terminus did the same but didnt realise that he was a little bit too close to aiyana. Zerkova Icy Grips him, Aiyana Harms him and 4 doom reavers plant their swords into the Lichlord.

This man has the right of it. Poor Terminus... filleted like an undead fish.
I've got a logfile from my first game and a partial from the second. I'll make a point of posting battle reports at the end of the tournament.

Alex McDonald (eSkarre) vs GMiT (Vayl) - Win to Alex, Assassination via DJ to the face
Close game, Skarre was down to one box and on fire (bad dice on my part) when she managed to pull out a reaper/siren/puppetmaster + Perdition combo to get the DJ to Vayl.

Is it possible to watch people play on Vassal? Or can only the competing players see whats going on? Would be interesting to check out some of the matchups as they play out.

Assuming you can catch one of the games in progress and the room isn't locked (most tend not to in my experience) you can certainly watch. Whats has been posting times as he's been made aware of them, so you can certainly hop on vassal at one of those times to catch a game. If you don't yet have vassal, follow the link in my signature to get what you need to watch. Look forward to seeing you online!

Yeah at least I like to keep the room open when I play. It's great for the community to chat a few words after the game. That said during my last game someone in the audience did delete everything on the map a few times and also put some strange terrain objectives into play. I don't think it was on purpose and using back button did help, but it was damn irritating. So if you watch please do not touch anything!

People, remember to update your game results, I've bolded the winners of the games that weren't marked yet (Jamie P and Alex Mcdonald) but it would be nice if one of them edited the document to add the caster and win condition data :)

I have a feeling most people can not access the google doc, I'm not sure if a google account is required, can someone confirm ? If you can and you won a match, please update the pairing with caster choice, winning method and control points on the document, otherwise post them here and I can update the file.

We had a pretty epic game with whats82 last night. It ended on turn ~10 when eHaley took Nemo down in melee ;) Almost all models of both armies were out of the game at that point. Some big highs and lows for both of us during the game.
