It's been a while since I painted anything from PP range but today while uploading my gallery (http://plinthcountry.com/blog/?s=pcgallery) I found photos of my entry for NQ painting challenge.
It was cool osl training but now I regret I use this model: sea witch is soooo useful in the field... :(
Hope you like it :)

I'm not sure if that is an amazing representation of Power Swell or Force Barrier, but that is amazing. Very nice job on the OSL there!

Thanks!
I know sea witch has no lightning powers but after all the theme was about the lightning, not the sea witch ;)

Very nice paintjob, but the photography is suffering somewhat. I feel like the miniature is too dark, and the background is pulling focus and distracting.

Thanks!
@althai: I agree: photo sent to NQ was made using black t-shirt as background: model was much better exposed but photo's quality was worse so I decided to take new shots. If I get decent dull black background (which won't be reflecting the light) I'll take another try :)
Speaking of that - any ideas for such background? Would piece od paper painted black and sprayed matt varnish do the job?

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! !!
Looks fantastic!
+1 for Power Swell
Love your OSL work! I'd say a standard blue gradient background would work well. Is there a specific technique you use for your OSL? Sorry, that's poorly worded, I meant mostly, how do you determine where the OSL wil be, do you hold it up to a bright light while painting or something similar?

Thanks all!
@Mugu: well when it comes to painting osl on large surfaces I found pretty simple method:
I DELICATELY spray paint on the model from the side light comes from. It must be just smal touch of the paint. If you spray for example white you get all highlights and all you have to do is blending them with the model :)
Hope it's clear.
I ruined some minis trying this so don't test it on your best model - at least not until you're sure you know what can you achieve :)
Cool, thanks! I had wondered if folks did that or not, especially as you say, this could lead to some quickly ruined models.

I'm not sure. I've never had much success getting good photographs with a black background, but then my miniature photography is not great generally. Raffa (from Massive Voodoo) generally manages to take nice photos on dark backgrounds: you should check out this article (http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2010/05/photo-backgrounds.html) he wrote about photo backgrounds. He also has some backgrounds you can print out and try, which might work well for you.
