having looked at all the groovy guides for magnetizing the jacks can anyone recommend a company in the uk to get them?

Regrettably I can't speak as to suppliers in the UK, but there are numerous sellers on ebay, or other websites. Rare earth magnets are what you probably want, a similar diameter cylinder to a drill bit you have works wonders for most purposes.

I bought some 2mm x 1mm magnets from these guys (good for the heads): http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/magnetsmagnetsmagnets

And some 5mm x 0.5mm magnets from here: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/silveralexcd (these being perfect for the arms, shoulders, hands and the torso / legs join).

Both were fine to use at the time (about 8 months ago).

I used these early last year & they were fine:- http://e-magnetsuk.com/. I got 2mm magnets which were too small (I glued heads) & 3 mm ones that were pretty good. 5mm might be better.
