Hello everyone,

I am very interested in starting to play Warmachine/Hordes and have a few questions. I used to play Warhammer 40K about 10 years ago and wanted to start playing again. While trying to decide what to play I stumbled upon this game and have decided I want to try this instead.

While reading about Warmachine and Hordes I noticed there is going to be a new edition released soon and I was wondering if it would be unwise to purchase a 1st edition rulebook. There seem to be a lot of books and I am unsure which book has a nice general overview of all the different factions for the games. Is there a specific book that would be useful to buy as a newcomer to the game?

I have no idea what any of the factions are capable of yet, but just by the looks of the models I am interested in playing the Legions of Everblight. I was thinking about buying the battlebox for that faction, is that a good idea?

Thanks for any information any of you could provide a newbie looking to join the ranks.

While reading about Warmachine and Hordes I noticed there is going to be a new edition released soon and I was wondering if it would be unwise to purchase a 1st edition rulebook. The new edition of the Warmachine rulebook will be out on January 6th so i say just wait the 10 days and pick it up then. The Hordes rulebook won't be out for another 6 months, however the field test rules are available for download and will be tournament legal until the book comes out.

There seem to be a lot of books and I am unsure which book has a nice general overview of all the different factions for the games. Is there a specific book that would be useful to buy as a newcomer to the game?Prime and Primal are the warmachine and hordes rulebooks respectively. The rest of the books are all expansions that contain additional rules and models for each faction, as well as fluff. Privateer expands the main story through these expansion books. So to start get the core books Prime or Primal. Since you are interested in Hordes i would recomend the field test downloads and getting the book when it comes out.

I have no idea what any of the factions are capable of yet, but just by the looks of the models I am interested in playing the Legions of Everblight. I was thinking about buying the battlebox for that faction, is that a good idea?the battleboxes are always a good way to start.

So in short Start with the downloads, get the books when they are released.

The Legion Starter box is a good deal, and a solid start to your force. Lylyth is a straight forward caster, the Carni wrecks schools, and everyone loves shredders.
