View Full Version : Mk II Thoughts: Solos & Minions

OK guys I know we got the MkII forum for feedback across all the factions, but I would like to use a series of threads I am putting up here to help correlate all our thoughts and feedback to share amongst multiple Trollblood player perspectives.

The rules for these threads to try to (hopefully) stop them from derailing:

1. Stick to the subject matter at hand (in this case solos and minions)
2. Combinations of subject matter with other models is acceptable

Fell Caller looks basically the same. Phew!

They nerfed the SSC. Lost the "last strike" thing, now, if an enemy kills an affected model, the enemy is KD at end of turn. Different, but at first glance, not as good. Also, the Charge ability requires proximity to a warbeast?!

I really didn't get to play the Hero much in MKI, but at first glance I love him in MKII. Melee monster, gives Champs a wicked tactic, and only 3 points!

Whelps are still Troll Control. I think (?) their Annoyance debuff dropped by 1.

Swamp gobbers got less amazing, but are only 1 point. Have to stand in their own cloud now as expected. Still probably going to be a staple.

*Edit* Alten Ashley still has monster hunter. Never expected that to stay!

*Edit2* Gundrun is still the best scenario model in the game. Didn't expect that to stay either.

Bone Grinders got a solid nerf bat to the nuts. They're really kind of useless now.

Swamp Gobbers, too. Their only benefit is the single point. They will throw cloud once, then get shot. And no lending Camoflage to a unit. Blech.

OTOH, Lanyssa Ryssal seems like a near autoinclude for an all-comers Hordes list. Hunters Mark is all around good, and the anti-Legion stuff is cake.

Totem Hunter is nice. I like the Sprint.

Fellcaller can call and do other things during his activation.
SSC can read stories in whatever order he chooses.
Horthol lost the giving an extra die to the LR's Impact attacks (I prayed long and hard that that gem would stay.)

Well, Brun & Lug are still almost entirely the same (Brun lost 2 health). Lug replaced chain-attack chomp with grab & smash.

These guys cost 11 points, and frankly thats a better deal than a lot of our heavies now...

*Edit2* Gundrun is still the best scenario model in the game. Didn't expect that to stay either.

Unless I'm reading him wrong you can kill him outright in a single turn now. You disable him the first time and he is knocked down and Feign Death goes into effect, but you could still attack him with melee attacks. And since he just healed all damage couldn't you just kill him again?

Skarath lost leap. That makes Dhalia & Skarath pretty crappy for 10 points.

Fell caller lost boost to RAT. Bummer, that was his prime ability imo.

Prey on the Totem Hunter makes him a very nasty man. He is SPD 7 and if one of his Prey is within 10" he will get an extra 2". With Prey he becomes a MAT 10 P+s 16/13. Ouch!

He lost his cumulative token marks, Command check ability, and Flying Steel option. But he also gained Sprint.

He is a solid solo for 3 points.

That's how I see it as well. He can no longer run to engage a melee unit and hold it up while taking some of them down the turn it comes back.

On the other hand Skarath now has a 10" corrosion spray. And Dhalia has an amazing spell now. Haunting Melody indeed.

oooh, I did not notice the second part of Haunting Melody. That is a very nice addition as it makes her much more survivable.

First Impressions of our Solos leaves me in love with the Fell Caller and the Hero. The fell caller just got better with the exception of the knockdown rules, but the fact we have an operative 2 attack weapon master with mat 7 on the field is amazing. Couple that with the Hero who makes our champs better and is a weapon master as well at Mat 8....holy crap... I guess I have to go buy another fell caller and more heroes for larger games...

Yeah that one is goig to hurt.
That and Revielle isnt quite as useful as it used to be due to the general rule change, but we knew that one already.

Lanyssa Ryssyl looks like she's going to be pretty fun to play with. Winter Storm will be nice against Legion and Hunter's Mark combined with the Axer's Animus is +4 inches of threat range on any beast.

Edit: Also, Viktor Pendrake got a lot meaner against beast heavy armies with Duck and Tough. Plus he's still fitting the trolls new "Knockdown/slam/throw" meta with his bola.

Other way around, 5 whelps for 2 points. Not 2 for 5 points.

Some of my opinions/thoughts on solos that I've had a decent amount of experience with:

Runeshapers


+1 ARM, +5 Damage Boxes
Lost Stonewall
I love the health boxes, but am a bit sad that they lost Stonewall. Give them back Stonewall, and I think they'd be perfect.


Fell Caller


+1 CMD
Didn't loose anything noteworthy
Fell Calls are no longer actions
Love what they did to him.



Trollkin Hero


-1 STR, -1 ARM, +1 CMD, -2 Damage Boxes
Lost Back Swing for Cleave
Lost Battlefield Formation
Seems to be far less survivable without Battlefield Formation. I'd love to see him be able to use Defensive Line with Champions. That'd be the only real suggestion that I'd have for him.

I'll probably have more feedback once I'm able to spend some time with them on the field.

Fellcaller NO LONGER BUFFS RAT!!!

Thats a big deal.

Anyway, the Totem Hunter is crazy good now. Sprint and Prey and Jump combine to let him pick off solos, light beasts or units 2 men at a time and then dart off into the trees.

I'm setting his prey as a team of Trencher Commandos just on principle.

Don't forget the +2 RAT boost he got. Now he has slightly more than a snow ball's chance in hell to hit something with his spray attack!
