As I?m starting to expand my Menoth army, I?m starting to wonder, how important is it to have advance deployment infantry/solos? Right now, I don?t have any and wonder if there?s a necessity of actually taking any.

Specifically speaking, when you guys build your list, do you always include some kind of advance deployment? Is it an essential part of a balanced list or can you get away with only having a few solos with it and then your standard troops?

This was something I noticed when creating lists, the lack of anything up front. Granted I don?t play a lot but for fun, I like to mess around on Forward Kommander. After a while, it dawned on my that my lists were getting a little stale for lack of any advanced deployment.

What?s your guy?s take on it?

there are some great and very good models, the daughters of the flame and the exemplar errents are both advanced deploy and two units that hold very good positions in many lists. if your not taking them for there AD, then there utility to many different lists make the worth taking a look at!

6" AD is still 6" in front of your army. Think of it as SPD+6" on the first turn. It also lets you react to your opponents deployment with little consequence.

The only thing I have trouble with AD is wracks with casters such as Amon or Feora. I usually have one of them way off the flank doing nothing except not being in the way.

I'd only take Errants (not that I have any yet) in scenario play. Otherwise, I think Menites work best as a brick and those few points would be better spent on some more support or an additional jack.

Advanced deployment for our faction doesn't seem to matter as much in normal games IMOP. Our units just don't have the defensive power that say the Trenchers have. Sure our Knights Errant have Sacrifice, but you're still losing guys while the trenchers can get where they need to go with almost 100% of their unit intact. Of course, that's assuming your opponent isn't tactically impaired.

But it can make a large difference if you're playing a scenario or one of the campaigns. I will highly recommend AD for scenario and campaigns.

Really guys? C'mon, Idrians are still good, just in a different way. I would still suggest giving them a try in MK2.

Sigh

I suppose you are right. I just cannot help but to recall the glory days of 3 Idrian waterfalls that wrecked Khadoran heavies and not weep at what the Idrians now offer (or more impoertantly, no longer offer).

The closest I've ever come to so called bricking(with Menoth) is HR rolling smoke and eFeora behind/next to two jacks.

I have and much like my Zealots (hopefully Vindictus will change this) they will stay in the carrying case.

Zealots were too good before and it was only logical they'd take a hit. I mostly miss the +4 on defence and the fact they were immune to pKrueger's feat. They may have been a bit overcorrected but...they're still viable.

And strangely enough, no one in our community ever played Idrians so..we don't mind much about that too. It's not that they're bad...but my army just has no need for them. As said, I'd rather have a heavy jack more.

when i build a list i put in what i like, then i go "OOH AD!!" as a perk they can catch the enemy early and thats always good

Seconded!
I take daughters because of double stabby fun time and errants for cheeky death no-no.
The AD is just gravy.

Since AD is only 6" it's not nearly as big a deal as it used to be in Mk1. I take Errants, but I don't take them for their AD, that's just something extra. The only time AD is all that useful is with stealth models who can spend their first turn running ahead of the army without worrying too much about being wiped out on the first turn. Daughters are useful in that regard, but large-and-by, AD models don't have much synergy with the rest of our armies, so unless they can function independantly and still have a use, they aren't usually worth having around.
