View Full Version : Thoughts on Kromac

I am primarily a Kromac player. I got into the faction because of Kromac and loved him in MK1. Now that MK2 field test is here im seeing things Im not sure I like. Now one could make the argument that brutalitied Wolf Riders/Ravagers needed to be nerfed, I can dig that. I was not expecting both to be nerfed. I was also expecting Kromac to get Thresher in beast form to replace his Chain Attack, and that was also left by the way side. I was also disappointed to see the point of speed go away in beast form. While in reality its possible to get him to 8in of movement its still less than he was in MK1 combined with Storm Beacon. The extra fury point is cool, but I would happily trade that for the extra point of speed.
Some changes for Kromac I would suggest would be:
-To change Ravager back to the original Brutality,including the +2 MAT with one exception, make it single model only instead of model/unit, or battlegroup as it is in its current incarnation, Make it an upkeep again and expires after use, kind of like retribution used to be.
-Give him Thresher, his chain attack in MK1 basically gave him a thresher but it was difficult to pull off sometimes, this essentially makes him a better troop clearer, like he should be.
-Take away the extra fury point in beast form and make him SPD 7 again.
Some of you may disagree with this which is fine by me. But in my mind these things need to be looked at. As it is right now, theres really no reason to ever have Kromac in human form, which may be what the devs were going after im not sure.

Make Pounce an ability, do something a little snazzier with Beast form.
Sad Kromac is sad...
I miss brutalized Wolf Riders, but they lost so much I don't see them pulling off any of their tricks =(

Rather then Ravager or Berzerk-granting of any sort, I really would rather that if they insist on making him boost melee not non-units, giving him a real battlegroup multiplier spell. Right now he really has little to deal with crowd control and he is encourged to take a lot of beasts with his beast form, but not really able to support them in human form. So a single-cost battelgroup spell, such as Unearthly Rage or Terminal Velocity, feel more like what I would expect.
Not those spells specifically, but I would rather have a general beast group buff then try and stick to Berzerk-granting, which I think looking through Warmachine was dropped entirely on its own.

Good point, Blaque. I also don't understand why bestial-nasty vicious Kromac has the lowest Beast Point allowance for the faction. Seems like he really pulled the short straw on the overhaul, at first glance.
Still willing to test, I just can't fathom the cause behind it. Its not as though Kromac was on everyone's "How To Win with Circle" list. I think that went to Krueger or Kaya in most cases.

I've been thinking that Kromac needs a 'unit'-wide spell so he can help out his fellow Tharn infantry. Looking through the Hordes spells I saw Savagery on Makeda which I think suits Kromac well. It would have a mitigating factor in that Ravagers and Wolves wouldn't get their Powerful Attack bonuses and most of our other units have ranged attacks they'd rather use.

i wanted to post in this, and the other kromac thread really.
when the ft cards came out, between copious amounts of coursework, i went straight to kromac, and i felt a little dissapointed. hes not the lowest beast points caster we have, ekaya is iirc? but that doesnt bother me too much... im going to play a good few games with him tomorrow to really test him out, but atm, he seems like his spell list isnt great, and he's lost some melee power... i mean, look at the beast form model and pose... why has he not got thresher?!?! hell, even his old chain attack would have been nice.
anyway, ill end up being way too negative, but atm im unhappy! im gonna give him a few games tomorrow and see how it works out.

somebody needs to decide what he's supposed to do and make him able to do it. This seems not to have happened yet.
Even the old 1" move after attacking would be a start.

Played him tonight. Some thoughts:
Ravager is bloody useless. I never had a chance to cast it. I never had a target worth casting it on. The beasts were often pretty far upt he field anyhow. In short, it was a wast eof card slot as far as I was concerned.
Bestial I cast a lot, but it didn't have its strength v. Hordes. Not too surprsing that.
Beast Kromac really wished he had a gun or offensive animus. I managed to pretty much murder a Nephillum Soldier and an Angelius on my own, but was then elft with 6 Fury (after Feat) and not really anything to do with it with Rhyas right in range in MkI for me to machine gun her to death with Warp Strike. An ability to Leap in his beast form would of also given him an ability to get to her. The Angelius and Nephillum had to die or Kromac was going to. Sadly, he didn't survive Rhyas, but happens there.
I think especially missing from him is a way to close gaps on his own in beast form. Overtake would of helped a lot. As would of Leap, as noted. Not too srue besides that.
He feels like he gives his army nothing. Ravager really just doesn't do anything he can use. He needs something to really get up and going, but as is, he really has nothing to give his force. He feels like a super-solo more then anything.
I intend to play him some more, but right now, two of his spells really feel like duds. That needs fixed.
Also, he may need more WB points I think to again, support his masive Fury stat in beast form. And again, this pushes me to think he needs a battlegroup spell like Terminal Velocity, Mobility or Iron Agression.

My poor Kromac. What a useless unflavorfull warlock. I hope this guy changes. He was not over the top in MKI so why all of the changes. The bestial is worthless. Ravager (?) is worthless. And rift is a down grade. We also lost the PB's animus so what is Beast Kromac going to do? Beat people up sure, but that is very, very bland. They screwed up two out of the three warlocks that I was hoping would stay cool (I use the term screw up not in such a harsh way as I know they tried): Kromac, eKaya, and Mohsar. Mohsar is still a fun blind dude.
I vow to play the hell out of Kromac and make him my Circle Darius!
