Hello. I posted this also in another thread, but wanted to make one just for it. So I got the rules for the Ghordson Basher in the e-mail like a few of you, and a bit of information popped out at me: The Ghordson Basher's grenade launchers that it has in the picture on the card (with grenades whizzing out in their smoke-trailed glory), and on the model have no rules! I first looked at the front of the card, didn't see it, so I expected it'd be on the back. No mentioning of grenade launchers whatsoever. I find this odd.

What's Flakfield?

Flakfield would be the rules for when the Basher fires its grenade launchers.

A rule on the Ghordson Basher.

EDIT - there's going to be a lot more simul-posts now that you can't tell if anyone else is posting...

-ahem-

I....am an idiot. I scanned the card quickly and didn't really read it. Sorry everyone. The only thing I can say to that is

"I've got two hands and I can't find my own ***!"

NOW! that I have READ the card all the way, I can say it is a decent 'jack. I will be adding him to my Merc armies under Thor's control.

Hey, *** didn't get filtered! I guess they updated the filters.

*** *** ***. Hee.

...

Anyway, yeah, Flakfield. It's just a lesser form of Rain of Death, right? Should pretty sick with Madhammer in that case.

Now actually seeing and reading it, it is a lot like Rain of Death. I like it.

I, too, am happy *** is allowed. :D

I think Flakfield is rather humorous. The Basher basically drops grenades and everything around him gets blowed-up but he doesn't get a scratch. heh-heh.

I will admit, I'm disappointed that the Basher didn't really have a ranged AOE attack, and thus won't be the artillery jack my dwarf armies have been wanting. Ah well. :3

It's still pretty cool, and its damage grid just makes me laugh. XD

Apparently not.

Mischa, if you hope and dream like teh rest of us tried and true mercs, and we cross our fingers, click our heels, and think happy, happy thoughts, the beloved Rhul Folk will get their artillery gunbunny.

Where do these rules originate from? I don't see anything on the front page about Basher rules being available. I'd like to see them v. much.

Hey, we need something for the Stonepelter to do.

And the Basher Rules were in the Newsletter that was sent out last Friday.

Aha. If they were sent out freely, any reason we can't post the stats here? Or would someone mind PM'ing me?

Well, they're still iffy about posting stats, but i'll let you know what it does:

It moves faster than the other heavy jacks, has the same armor, and has a POW 15 ram attack. It's got Super Slam, can charge/slam for free, and has follow up.

As mentione above, it has Flack Field, which is a lesser version of Rain of Death, but has great synergy with Madhammer.

Thor Prontoing it will help you set up some good slam lanes, and Gorten's Strength of Granite will give you pow 19 slams.

It's a 7pt jack, so it fits right between the Driller and the RockRam, and with the way it's systems are spread out on the damage grid, it's not going to be easy to disable.

All and all, it's a very 'schenanigan' heavy jack for the rhulic to get.

Also the Basher actually looses very little being used by Hammerfall High shields (other than no access to Pronto, SoG or Redline of course....)

While Flackfield is less potent than Rain of Death, it is also free instead of being a special attack (plus no ARM decrease). Flakfield then move means no being bogged down by infantry swarms.

One thing I noticed is that it looks like a very focus efficent jack. You autohit-AoE for free, then slam something for free.

There's a problem with the links for many people, if you right click and 'save as' then you get the cards. That's how I eventually got to see it.

That's a staple of Rhulic Warjacks. Get more done with less!

it's also a compromise since reign of death does a pow18 and this does a pow12...

Should work very well jack marshalled, it slams for free, you boost to hit and take advantage of jack marshalling.

Thanks Dewbakuk! That's what I was looking for. It looks like a very cool jack, like a mix between a Devastator and a Gladiator - either shred some infantry with shrapnel, or slam the warjacks away with pow 15 slams. Nice.

What Flak Field lacks in power it more than makes up in versatility.

Rain of Death:
- Is a star/special attack, thus taking up an action.
- Must buy additional attacks
- Can be used at the end of a charge, but you lose the actual charge attack in lieu of Rain of Death

Flak Field:
- Can be used at ANY point of the model's activation except in the middle of movement.
- 100% free to use
- Can be done after slamming and the follow up.

Being smart with your slams, you can easily get your Basher within Flak Field range of some well defended, squishy models past enemy lines. Since it's an auto-hit, this is a perfect way of taking out some of those annoying DEF 16+ lurkers towards the rear like Eiyriss, Widowmakers, and the Black 13th.

As Askew was saying, the thing that leaped out at me about Flakfield is its versatility. You can FlakField to get unengaged and follow it up with a charge or Slam (and since it Slams for free, uses its weapon POW for the Slam, and only has the one weapon, there's no reason NOT to Slam), or Slam and then Flakfield and then Follow Up, or Slam to clear a path into some squishies, follow up, THEN Flakfield. It's wonderfully nutz.

When combined with follow up it truely is a very effective ability with hundreds of applications, especially when combined with Redline and tune up.

Tune up os such a great ability, it really let's jacks shine.

Tune Up is an awesome ability, but be aware that it does absolutely nothing for Flakfield. Flakfield automatically hits things within range (no use for boosted attacks) and clearly states the damage is unboostable (no use for the boosted damage).

Things like Durgen's feat add dice rather than boost, which would still work. Thor's Tune Up however could still be put to good use with Slam attacks and damage, but would do nothing for Flakfield.

PPS_Mod:Polar_Bear
11-29-2009, 12:44 PM
Yeah. Thor boosting the to-hit, then the free slam, then using the Marshal Point to make another attack has been the most efficient way I've found to be using the Basher so far.

Just be careful, from what I've seen with the Basher's super slams, you can easily slam outside of either Searforge caster's Control radius.

The basher is really making me want a full on Rhulic army for Warmachine. These mercs are nice, but imagine a full army designed with in the style of the current rhulic jacks.

And this is after I've already purchased a full Retribution army, yeesh.

A man can dream can't he?

I retract any negative words I said about it, I like the jack.

Thor and him will be best friends.
