View Full Version : Where Do I Start?

I've always wanted to start a secondary (minor) faction to play when I get bored with Cryx, my main faction. And frankly, playing Cryx for 5 years is good enough for me, I will still play them first and foremost, but I want something else to have some fun with.

I have once in a while trolled the Merc forums and seen nothing but good things, so here's my problem I guess. I want to play mercs, but I want to play ... all of them at once. I love the privateer charter for models, I like the 4 Star because magnus is probaby my favorite merc caster all around, and I love the style of the dwarf army, it just looks so cool, sadly, I refuse to buy in bulk, I don't like having that much stuff to paint or put together.

So my question is simply, what do I do?!?!?//1 *explode*

I'd like to get an army together that is feasible from a 15 point game all the way up to 50, of course, starting at 15 and going up from there, and if I were to choose a contract I would def. start with the 4 start and branch out. So if I went with magnus, what do I need, what do I not want, etc. If I start playing mercs, eventually I'll buy enough to have everything I'd possibly want to field, but I am not quite sure what a good merc list looks like :)~

Thanks kiddoz <3

Well 4* allows you to play with the mercs that work for Cryx and Khador. So Magnus can take Croe and his cutthroats, any pirates as well as just about anything else. There are very few models that don't work for the 4* contract.

Here's a list of what I would consider taking with magnus (either version) in 4*

Light jacks:
Renegade
Talon
buccaneer

Heavy:
Mangler
Nomad
Freebooter
Mule

Troops:
Kayazy assassins
Croe and his band
Sam and the devil dogs
press gangers
sea dogs

Solos:
Any privateer solo
Carvolo
Kell
Orin
Eiryss
Gorman
bokur

Then it would up to you to find what fits your playstyle.

Well, I am the biggest newbie around, so take this with a shaker of salt, but...

I would start with regular Magnus, a Nomad, a Mule, and a Mangler. Solid little battle group with 3 points left over for whatever solo you want to fit in there for 15 points, and that core of models will carry you as far as you want to go with it, says I. From there you can add infantry to taste (steelheads!) depending on your playstyle.

Use this thread so you can view the current information regarding the contracts and who works for what.

Hope that helps you out!

Of course I forgot the steelheads. I would take them with magnus. The foot and cav with stannis are amazing.

Prime Magnus, a Mangler, Mule, Renegade, and a Vanguard. One of my 50 point battlegroups actually has two Renegades, 2 Mules, a Mangler and assorted infantry.

I would recommend a crossover caster like Fiona.
Of course she is my fav.
"Smiling's my favorite"
But u can use her in 4* and Hbrn
shes alotta fun, but so is mags. She is also a lil more flexible
than Bart as a crossover caster IMHO. But thats not to underestimate Mag'ez badassawesumsauceness.
Soooo get Fiona-la-negra and I would say pMags over e, but that is preference.

...then again, I loves me summ chunky womenz so whut do i know.
