I went ahead and created a new account without reading the reset password thingy. Oh well, better to start afresh sometimes. To start of, here's a recap with fewer pictures:

Paper Kodiak:

Paper Karchev:
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6090/karchev013.jpg

And next will be my recently completed warjack!

And now here's my latest build, unpainted so far, but it will be soon:
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1268/jug01.jpghttp://img87.imageshack.us/img87/205/jug02.jpghttp://img22.imageshack.us/img22/8895/jug03.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/2663/jug04.jpg

I'm thinking about tackling the Behemoth next, according to its concept art, not the current model. Unfortunately, I do not possess the book, only the stat card (which is really small). Can anyone help me out with a bigger resolution picture of the artwork?

The esteemed artist Amdrea Uderzon features the Behemoth fighting a Carnivean in this deviantart picture:

Might be useful for your purposes.

Amazing job

In a wierd way though, painting the jacks doesn't really seem to do them justice. It's not really the paint job, it's just that to me there's something so awesome just about just looking at the unprimered paper and then when the paint goes on it looks like it gets messed up a little, I guess not as 'clean' looking.

Glad to see these back. This is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time.

Brilliant, brilliant work.

Thanks for the pic :) That certainly helps a lot.

Well, the 'jacks certainly looks good enough being in paper alone, but I'm one of those people who just can't stand playing an unpainted army. I like my 'jacks a bit dirty too.

But yes, tackling the Big B soon, I'm still studying the artworks and the parts before applying the knife to the cardboards.

These continue to be some of the most awesome 'scratch' jacks I have ever seen. I'm waiting for your Origami Cav;)

Now that's an idea. Hmmm... Unfortunately I can't see it being done without putty as of now. Maybe I'll try one just to see if it can be done one day.

Juggernaut painted:

And here's how the battlegroup looks so far. Excuse the awkward cropping, not really well to do good camera fu today.

Might take a break from churning out more models. I need to reassess my list and shortlist that one final non-character 'jack that I'll need for my Karchev army.

These ones are nice, still could use some more layers of highlights. Got a lot of respect to people who can make something out of nothing.

The juggy is a great addition to the team! He looks a bit armadillo-like to me, which is a good thing.

As for the final jack, you could go with a destroyer if you want a ranged option other than the behemoth, otherwise maybe a berserker for a different chassis?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm leaning more towards the Destroyer for a more balanced list, but the Berserkers tickled my fancy as well. I'm just afraid that if I make a Berserker, one is not enough :P Right.... we'll see how this goes...

Right, I got hit by a model making bug but I need help. Can anyone post a picture of the Berserker from behind? I need to know how the hull and boiler looks like from behind. This would greatly help me because I can't find a picture or reference of a back view.

Here is a nice rear pic of the Berserker from the old forums:http://old.privateerpressforums.com/index.php?showtopic=162824&hl=berserker

Hope that helps

Heh. Nice. I knew someone who could build an entire Warhammer 40k Space Marine army from paper, drop pods, terminators, rhinos, whatever. You seem like you could easily build an entire Warmachine army out of paper. :D Very cool. I wish I could do that. Haha.

nice! what did you used for tmaking that? i'm looking to convert some of my jack's head after see this thread hehehe

Cardboard from leftover booster boxes, A4 paper, knife and UHU glue. Oh and a pencil (or a pen) to outline the pieces before cutting them. PP round base optional, but it'll really make the models look good.

Paper warjacks? They look amazing, but I'll agree painting them doesn't do them justice as just leaving them paper and plastic. The pose on the kodiak is something I wish I could emulate in steel a lot easier. Paper and plastic, the cheap man's 'jacks.

I also can't help but shake the feeling that your other models got hit by a car or something for you to be building these guys.

You got that right. I lost 90% of my Khador army in a car accident that I was lucky to survive from with minimal injuries. The only things that managed to be scavenged was half a Juggernaut, the Spriggan upper body only, pVlad (sans cape), Eiryss with one arm and Kell Bailoch.

It was really a blow to the hobby for I had to stop playing for a while because of the lack of funds and models.

These are amazing. Do people do this because they like to or because they do not having access to the real thing? Seems like a lot of work.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the next jack in your lineup. Speaking of which.... have you gotten far enough to give us a preview?

Both, actually :P But yeah, it's a lot of work, but it's worth it for 2 main reasons (none of them is about saving money, though that's what it turned out to be anyway):

a) I can pose my 'jacks in any manner I like upon construction. Rather than just parroting the static poses of the current model, I can plan and then build the 'jacks to interact with its base scenery to make it more dynamic and cooler. Plus paper's easy to work with and very forgiving.

b) The looks on other people's faces when they see the models in person. It's one of those 'priceless' moments :P It's different, it stands out and it makes an impact on the table. I don't even need to win to feel satisfied when playing with these.

But the actual motivation to embark on this project is that I badly want to play again. I'd like to buy everything again, but doing so would be slow because I don't have a few hundred lying around for Warmachine backup, so that would limit me to only 1 model per month. That would necessitate a 6 month-1 year wait before I start playing again. That's not cool.

Eventually these paper 'jacks will be replaced with actual models (or conversions to fit the new chassis), I still support PP all the way, but in my own capability.

I'm working on it! ^.^ It'll be the Berserker (hence why I asked for the pic). I'm planning the pieces, so the construction will start tomorrow-ish. Might paralel build a couple of these to avoid being creatively burned out :)

How in the world is this done? is it like Origami or is it just really thick paper that's been glued together?

very very cool man. you ever think of doing a paper colossal for fun or house rules? i think they got a pic of those in the new warmachine prime mk2 book.

I like this idea as a way to test a build before sinking the money into the army. Good way to field test your ideas. But Hate the idea because your stealing from the company, and are brash enough to shove it in their face on their forums because your too damn cheap to buy the models. But I do give you mad props for being creative.

Wanna read everything before you go off on a rant next time? Chiiiiiill.

In case you didn't notice, he supports Privateer Press, has had a full army of khador before it got wrecked in a car accident, and currently doesn't have the budget to buy more than one solo a month.

Most of us can empathize with his army loss, and appreciate the work of art that he's sharing with us. If you can't, then you don't have to post and be abusive to other people.

I'm back. Wow... it's been nearly a year since I last posted here (and played). Lots of crazy stuff happened (like getting married to a woman that understands my gaming tendencies, yay!) but I managed to get my army back (somewhat). That doesn't mean I'm going to stop scratch building though :p

I wish I can do a step by step but it's more like approximation than a standard set of instructions so I'm really winging it. I can build another Juggernaut and do the step by step thingy by next month if nothing will impede me. Meanwhile, as much as I like the Behemoth, I hate the model because it didn't follow the artwork from the Apotheosis book. The jack in that book was the real thing. A badass. Big too.

I'll be updating this post with pics of what I've done so far (or make a new post to stay on the radar), a Behemoth that tries to stay true to the concept artwork found in the book. I took a few liberties like changing the position of the extra 2 smokestacks jutting out of the boiler, slight arm redesign, etc. because nothing can be perfect when you're dealing with paper.

Overall, it's good to be back. :)

Anyways man it would be awesome if you did instructions for these. I think it would be very awesome if you could do that. I may actually try to do bone chickens now as I had my cryx army stolen along with a bunch of other sstuff out of my car last month. I still have my pGaspy 2010 though :)

Anyway, here's the update pics on the Big B:

Chassis. The bombards are a tad on the small side but the overall bulk is kinda big-ish. Probably the biggest model I ever have to put on a large base.

http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/3750/dsc01281tg.jpg
Left arm 50% done. The other 50% will be the 3 AP punch guns on top of it. That's taking a lot of work so far, surprisingly.
