I have just gotten around to finishing up my first painted model in my retribution army, the gorgon. (hey, at least i found a use for the poor guy)
they were based on this concept piece i photoshoped.

here is the gorgon. please note i havent sealed it yet since there may be minor tweeks.

i had to play around with a few different methods before i settled into one that worked best so the paint is a little rough but i think its acceptable.
im still very happy with this paint scheme as it makes the jacks look very menacing and relies on a limited pallet. im also happy the single cyclopean eye that destroys that darn duckbill look.
one thing i am not happy at all with are the minor reflections of red/orange on the blades, if anyone has a good way of doing that i would love to hear it.

Woooooow~! That looks awesome! I think that only thing that would make it look a little less dull would be to darken up the gray to a black, or is that just the camera that is making look like that?

i noticed that as well but i dont think theres anything i can do about it. thats the blackest paint i have without glossing up the finish, i use reaper master series pure black, its just a consequence of a matte finish.
if anyone dose know of a way to darken it up without getting glossy i would try it.

the original photoshopped version is semi glossy and deep black. GW Badab Black should knock some of that grey back a notch but it's still translucent enough not to ruin your oranges (unless you over do it)

Execution is bit off, but scheme is attractive and original.

What you could do is get a bottle of matte varnish.
Then you could paint your model deep jet black and blazing red highlights n whatnot, and after it is all said and done, brush over matte varnish to take out the shine. Not only will it take out the shine of the model, but it will also form a protective sealer.

I agree -- you need to take the grey down to nearly black -- the contrast really needs to be pumped up. Maybe one more shade of highlighting in the deepest recesses too --something really bright towards the yellow shade of orange.

wow! that looks awesome! i love the whole molten lava look it has going on. :D i agree with the other posters about touching up the black, but that could just be the camera. i hope to see more models like this, maybe even some infantry or a caster!
