Hi guys,

I have always liked the look of the forgeguard/highshields, and the new warjack has pushed me way over the edge toward starting a Rhulic army. The only exposure I have to Warmachine at the moment is through Vassal online, so I will be trying to get the feel of the Searforge forces etc, and the way they play before I buy.

What I wanted to ask was - do you guys have any tips/pointers about the way the Rhul work together, any common combos/setups? Also, on the advent of the new Mk2 rules, where would be the best place for me to learn about the casters/units until the mercenary book is released?

Thank you in advance for your support
Lofty

There is a searforge sticky at the top of the page that should help, good luck.

Main thing I find is that with a Rhulic list you don't have to play as aggressively as other WM factions. The high armour combined with Gorton's spells/feat in particular support a more passive-aggressive play style.

Hey Lofty this Clay from IK Adventures.

The best thing I can say about the Rhulics based on what I have seen is that they are a slow hard hitting force. Kinda like Khador only a bit slower.

Gorten has an amazing feat, and I like the fact that you can take 3 Bokurs. The new Avalancher looks badass, and the Basher is the sauce of awesome. You also will probably want to look at Thor, one of the best Jack Marshals I have seen.

Goodluck! Perhaps I can face your Rhulic's sometime in Vassal.

My rule of thumb that I have been doing since I started Warmachine is "Pick a caster and stay with them until you you've learned them inside and out".
I started as Menoth and played Feora and eFeora until everyone I played with would get this "Oh god not fire again" look. ;)

Now that I have switched to Searforge I choose Madhammer because I think he would be the toughest caster to learn how to play. So far I'm enjoying him even if my win to lose ratio is very low. This is the army I'm using for 15pts:
1 - Avalacher, 4 - Gunners (this is my long range, AOE, feat army)
2 - Drillers, 3 - lights

In bigger games you most deffinatly want Thor, Bokur's and all of the above.
I am just starting to use infantry and I've heard great things about the High shield (which I am currently painting). The Basher is fun and will work great with every caster/jackmarshal. I've personal been disappointed by the Wrought Ram but it is a very durable Jack and I take it in larger games.

The only real advise I can give from personal experience is this:
1) Practice, practice, practice.
2) Play against a variety of different casters so you learn which ones you go head to head with and which ones you take out from a distance.
3) LoS and Arc Nodes are a pain in your kanass so make sure holes are blocked and Arc Nodes are disabled.
4) Searforge is like a train, it takes a while to get it going (3P's). . . but once you get up to speed (learn what works for you) the only thing that will stop you is you.

If you want a real challenge, stick with pure blooded Searforge. If you prefer to win more off the hop go 4Star.

Either way, welcome to Rhul and enjoy your stay.:D

Nah don't go 4 Star, you can't employ the Horgenhold!!

Go Highborn, least then you have access to kick *** dwarves with hammers.... lol

Hi guys

Sorry I messed p my thread subscription settings, I didn't know I had any replies here :)

Clay - cheers for the synopsis, can't wait for the new mercs book. June right?

Jugrnot - Great tips man, lots to think about :) I was very tempted recently to get a cheap Gorten battlebox from ebay, but I decided to wait until the new book/models were released

Maxxev - I fully intend to play a pure Searforge army if at all possible, only the new rules will tell!

Once again, sorry I missed the replies, and thanks for the help :)

lol . . . and the pdf is out on the merc contracts. Not that you need to know much . . . 4" extra deployment and can field 1 extra of each non-character unit.:)

4" extra deployment

The increased deployment area is so rediculously awesome.

I think the new Rhulic rules are:

1) More dwarf
2) More Bunny
3) More dwarf
4) More Bashers/other favorite heavies
5) Win and have lots of fun doing it! (or lots of fun losing, either way dwarf = fun!)

I cannot stress this enough, but will refrain for a while until the Contract rules are final. I'd hate for PP to "Bloodgorge" us.

LOL. I love it when my opponent sets up and I'm like "oh yea, Searforge sets up 14" . . . ", and the response is "*sigh* I know . . . :(".

I must agree, win or lose, Dwarves are fun. There is something satisfying about crippling your opponents jacks before they get to you or ripping apart two heavies in one turn with cost efficient Drillers. :D
