ok guys i got back and took third this time around.

i used teh vayl list up until teh final round and then i used teh plylyth list to get 3rd.

my only loss was to a 3rd round Pskarre list. i was out numbered from the beginning and also lost teh role to go first. the scenario was the new one with two spots near teh center where you have to hold both strip and crap.

the issue during this game was i was so outnumbered it was sick, my defense didnt matter because of skarres one spell and her feat i knew was going to be harsh.

the seraphs were ok, in the first game they killed stuff in melee easily but i am starting to doubt using more than 2 at the moment. anyone have any views on that? i dont like taking any of our lights currently because they all seem to lack.

low model count at 35 pts was another thing that bothered me. because we can no longer dance around ignoring freestrikes with her feat like MKI , it would seem we have to increase our model count to stand a chance against some list, not all.

typhon was amazing all day except in the third game. i set him up to be charged but three attacks later rolling near max damage three times in a row spelled teh end for my plans and the chance of getting two seraphs in charge range of Pskarre.

what is everyones thoughts about lights compared to heavies and higher mdoel count?

I think you're completely and utterly ... correct. Lower model count is a serious liability in a competitive environment, especially for scenario play.

As you say, light beasts might be a way to stack up the models. I've started building lists almost entirely without heavy beasts, but most of our best warlocks seem to track better with our heavies; Vayl, eThagrosh and Absylonia, especially. Saeryn can make anything look good, and has the greatest toolbox in the game (until someone successfully has her nerfed because they can't handle breath stealer ... but that's for another (locked) thread), so she's probably our go-to gal for scenarios play, unfortunately.

It's quite the pickle. And not one that seems readily cracked... The faction seems to do very well with beast-heavy, and less well with infantry, so how to fit the former into a competitive environment that more often than not favors the latter?

I need to cross the border one day and go to one of these.

you should come. you are actually quite close if your in windsor. RIW is 20 min drive from the bridge.

Incubi are my "light warbeasts" that even the playing field. They require infantry (legionnaires) and striders also help immensley with thinning out infantry hordes, but both of those add up to taking a warlock that is not so beast centric.

the first lists lack of model count really did suck though.

I'm surprised that Typhon didn't help with the numerical disadvantage.

Try raeks instead of seraphs next time? ;) You get twice as many!

typhon did do his job in most cases. the game i m referring to is the third game losing him to very high damage rolls. if it wasnt for that, Skarre would of been toast.

raeks are still fragile and dont have the same damage output that Seraphs have, they also lack ranged attacks. the defense 15 wouldnt of made a difference.

I too have been pleasantly surprised by teh staying power of seraphs, I mean they're no khadoran warjack or anything but teh subtle change in ARM and wounds has had more of an effect than I expected.

Also strafe has been game winning. I still wonder if people really realise how badass strafe D3+1 and Fury 4 is.

What about subbing a Seraph for 10 Legionnaires and a Shredder?

i would use strafe while closing then send in my seraphs to melee. the seraphs are pow 16 with incite and crit poison. Strafe is still good.

Yes I've often used strafe early, melee mid game and then assassinated with strafe. I was particularly referring to teh ability to ignore intervening models close to the target with strafe, to get assassinations. Large base and elevation helps too but I hardly ever get that to work.

I know I cross the border on a regular basis, shopping not gaming.
Keep saying I will, but never do.
A few years back I was heavy into the GLWL (Great Lakes (insert other name of game) League) and many (insert other name of game) tournaments in the states.
I have pretty much want to learn MKII before I attempt going into the tourney scene again. My regular gaming opponent is pushing me to attend but I have been fighting him off for the last 3 months.
